I'm an alumni of the law school. For godsake, please get serious about your hiring and promotions policy. When Oishik Sircar, who has been a full professor for so many years at JGLS, joins Melbourne Law as Senior Lecturer (2 ranks below), and when Debolina Dutta (who has been an Associate Professor at JGLS) joins Melbourne as only a Postdoctoral Fellow, and when Ashrita Prasad Kotha, who was an Associate Professor at JGLS even before her PhD joins NLSIU as Assistant Professor after her PhD, you know that your promotion policies are a joke and way below international as well as national standards.
I love all of these people I just mentioned. They are great teachers and exceptional scholars. But your promotions of them, like ALL of your promotions, follow some weird logic. Look at NLS or NUS, with their rigorous benchmarks. You are doing nobody a favour with subpar policies, only embarrassing yourself.
I recently heard of a story where an Associate Professor of JGLS wanted to go for a PhD to a foreign institution and their prospective supervisor would be an assistant professor of the university. Do you see how ridiculous this is? We have become a joke in most circles.

I understand that in grief, you are trying to find someone to blame. But no one is at fault here. This is a tragedy, plain and simple. It is not a result of mismanagement or your standard run-of-the-mill admin stubbornness.
There are a million decisions that led to this unfortunate event, and it is very easy to fall prey to this sort of thought. I implore you to remain focused on what's ahead and not what is done.
Regarding the memorial, an email was sent communicating that there was going to be a condolence address today, and the auditorium was packed with not just students but staff and faculty as well. Everyone knew the victims to some extent, and we have all been affected by it. Please do not let misdirected anger divide us in these trying times.
The Volvo bus had crashed in a truck and toppled.
This tragedy could have been averted if the examination department and the COE would have postponed the Continuous Assesment of Junior Batches in light of the impending holi holiday and ZELUS.
They refused to budge, which resulted in the junior batches having to rush back to college to write their test after the fest forcing them to get on that night bus in the first place.
The university is also suppressing the matter by asking batch group admins to delete messages about this tragedy and have also refused to send a mail for the memorial which is taking place today.
When you are on your own, nobody cares what you do and where you spend on.

If you were a judge all your judgements would be overruled for the sole reason that you, an idiot who decided to pursue law, passed it. Even an order for adjournment would be overruled because the parties would have wanted the matter to be heard. If you were a counsel, you'd always be on the losing side even if the other side was wrong. You would bring death penalty on your client for a parking ticket owing to your sheer stupidity.

- Academic reputation (based on questionnaires sent to foreign universities): 79.7 for Jindal, 71.5 for NLSIU
- Citations (based on SCOPUS stats): 68 for Jindal, 54.2 for NLSIU
- H-Index citations (based on SCOPUS stats): 55.7 for Jindal, 45.2 for NLSIU
- International fees: USD 7,825 for Jindal, data missing for NLSIU
- International student mix: 1% for Jindal, data missing for NLSIU
ANALYSIS:
- NLSIU actually does pretty well in the research parameter, considering that the faculty size is much smaller than Jindal. It's like UK and France having almost the same GDP as India despite having only 4% of India's population.
- As for the academic reputation parameter, JGLS probably does better because it has a lot more tie-ups and a lot more of its students go abroad. So professors and admin at foreign universities will probably give Jindal better feedback on the questionnaire. NLSIU's tie-ups are limited and it has fewer students going abroad (although that may change with swelling batch sizes).
- Re employer reputation, tough to say why Jindal scored higher, but it's important to remember that children of several major law firm owners and senior partners are Jindal students or grads. So if a questionnaire went to them, then a higher score for Jindal is possible.
- Re international fees, NLSIU does not admit international students in the main list. So this perhaps worked to its detriment. Same for international student percentage, although the 1% for Jindal is hardly significant.
Finally, the question of why other NLUs are missing. First of all, it's important to remember that even NLSIU was missing until Sudhir took over and made a push. So the #1 requirement is a proactive VC. However, Jindal and NLSIU (post Sudhir) have poached a lot of their faculty and those NLUs are not in great shape now.

They can essentially mould even non-nlus grads into NLU standard with the LLM and PhD courses. 5 years is enough to bring the non-nli grads upto standard. Yet, NLUs don't want to focus on the quality of higher education. They just want the money. No wonder the quality of faculty is declining even at NLUs when they keep selecting non-nlu faculty.
Brief Preparation was a bit tougher.

MNLU Nagpur guy who brought a situation that salary not paid to staff. Corruption in faculty recruitment, building construction etc also expected.
NALSAR current VC who’s making things bad with good faculty leaving and no alumni joins as faculty.
NLUD where VC alleged of nepotism and corruption in PhD evaluation when he was NLIU prof and was asked to leave.
MNLU Mumbai where all VCs responsible to run the university in a shabby rented building for decades and not working hard to get land and building in place.
NLU Haryana where a degree college principal with no background in law became VC because her husband was senior IPS in the state
So many more cases. NLUs need to rethink about their administration model. Making VC everything and giving him/ her all the powers is extremely bad system
