There's case law regarding how supreme court and high courts can sentence someone to a form of life imprisonment which is barred from being remitted by the central and state government. However there is no provision under CrPc which allows the SC or HC to do this , they have applied their "inherent" powers to "bring justice" (at least from what I have read) for this. Swamy Shraddananda (2) v. State of Karnataka is the relevant case law regarding this. In the same way can supreme courts or high courts create a sentence of imprisonment which exceeds the maximum sentence for an offence if they're worthy of such a sentence ? And likewise can they strike down mandatory minimum sentences for various offences ? In the case of the latter , the relevant case law is Mitthu v state of state of Punjab where the supreme court struck down mandatory death penalty. Could the supreme courts and high courts likewise strike down mandatory minimum prison sentences as well ? The latest case regarding if the higher judiciary can do this or not that I found was this

There is no argument to respond to here. If you are satisfied with your learning environment at DU then that's fine. Why go after other institutions though? Every institution has its own advantages and disadvantages. Better to know them and find ways to work around them than to pull down each other.

Assuming you aren’t the brightest student in class, you can definitely work in a Tier 2/ Tier 3 firm. Corporate work is not that difficult although some colleagues may be difficult to work with.

If you’ve not completely written off corporate law as a career, don’t give up hope. Be strategic with your approach. Don’t apply to 1500 firms randomly. Select boutique firms, small size firms, see when partners/ associates are leaving. DM associates on LinkedIn to figure out if they are vacancies and then apply .

I would say that apart from necessary vocabulary which will come from just reading judgements and papers and being around other lawyers, legalese is archaic and those using it in everyday speech do not sound like natural English speakers. Everybody who matters -- from judges to clients -- prefers plain yet precise language because it conveys the message quicker. For English generally, I would say, read more than just law. The quality of English found in Indian newspapers has deteriorated in the past few decades, but English and American publications like the Atlantic, the Economist, the New York Times, the Guardian, etc. have the right balance of plain yet professional language.

I would suggest you specifically flagging out this firm so that people don't end up joining it, and that too in a city where the heart of litigation lies.

As far as career choices go, keep applying to law firms/chambers and something will turn up for sure. Start from somewhere and don't let the stagnation rot you. Keep moving, even if it's only an inch better than where you were.
