Those are authentic versions of the judgments from the law reports. Anybody that knows anything of those legal systems will know that versions circulating around elsewhere will not be as authentic as the ones on Westlaw or Lexis. They have made a clear choice to tilt the balance a little in favour of accessibility. Either tell me of a way that any blind person using the typical screen readers can read a secured document, which is also the most authentic copy of the judgment, or this debate really isn't worth having. Remember the reality: blind people are everywhere in the legal profession - from law firms, to in house, to advocates doing litigation, to regulatory compliance, to academia. Okay I'll be completely honest here and I'll rule out the considerations and you can make your choice.

1. Jobs- The campus placement scene is not very good because we do not have a day z scene. Companies and firms usually come around the year to pick up people. They want us to intern because we're based in Bombay anyway. They do pick up around 2-6 each- khaitan, sam, cam, s&r etc, and they have a fair chance to land a job etc.

In terms of actual numbers, around 30-40 people have been placed in the batch of 2025. So the numbers are not great but I think we are getting there. We might have a day z in the next two to three years. In terms of the batch of 2026, a lot of us have callbacks and assessments at Tier 1 firms and are expecting ppos from Tier 1s to roll in soon.

1. Internships - Internships are convenient in Bombay, both during the semester and in off months. You can intern while staying in your hostel, and during breaks, it’s significantly more affordable. Under the old policy, we were allowed a one-month exemption per semester, and many students managed to intern for two months while maintaining 70% attendance. However, this has now changed. We can intern only once per semester now, and doing so means we can’t afford to miss any additional classes due to the attendance requirement. That said, we still get four months of internship breaks per year, which I think is sufficient for law school.

1. Admin - The admin is not really a pain like a lot of other colleges like NLUO, RGNUL etc. They're pretty fine. They're mostly pro-student, but they're very slow and bureaucratic like you expect from government colleges. Most importantly, they're very new and nascent, so they haven't figured their stuff out yet. Most of their complacency comes from the fact that they're extremely new, but otherwise it's fine. Things are a little slow, but there's no like anti-student approach at all in the admin.

1. Faculty - the faculty is, barring a few exceptions, 4-5 professors, mediocre at best. Do not expect brilliance. Again, they're not anti-student. They're quite understanding, but mediocrity is the norm here, not brilliance.

1. Culture- it's a very new college, we've only had five batches pass out, so it's very difficult to comment on it. It's still in its nascent stages, everything is building, etc. The senior- junior relationships in general, in terms of support for moots and other things, is developing slowly. Ragging and bullying scenes do not exist, but it's not the best because I've seen the culture at NUJS, NLS, etc., and it's better, but we are definitely getting there.

1. Location advantage- A lot of people sell this and it has become the buzzword for mnlu Mumbai, so I'll be completely honest. In terms of internships, there is absolutely a location advantage, especially with the old policy. I have interned six months out of the 12 in the past one year and I could have done more solely because it was so convenient for me because I live in Bombay and I could intern with college. It's also significantly cheaper. Even without the internship policy, in the internship months, it's significantly cheaper to live in the hostel and intern from there as compared to any other accommodation in Bombay, which is quite expensive. In general, we also have partners, etc., coming for competitions, for lectures, etc. There are also a lot of conferences, etc., organized by firms and other organizations, which are mostly in Bombay, so we do get the opportunity to attend them if one wants to. There is also no shock value, so while interning, we can completely focus on interning. Most importantly, it's extremely safe. Everything is quite accessible and Bombay as a city obviously has its pros and cons, so those come in.

1. Performance in Extracurriculars- we have been doing exceptionally well in Extracurriculars, especially Moot Courts and ADR. For the past two years, our Stetson and Jessup team has been qualifying for the World Rounds. In terms of negotiation also, we had a complete win at NLS NMC last year in all categories. We also won the NLUO negotiation competition, Jindal Khaitan negotiation competition this year. So, they've been doing quite well like that because of the senior-junior support system that has been increasing, because guidance is a very big part of it.

1. Campus- okay. Now, this is a little tricky because earlier we had one hostel building and one college building right opposite each other in Hiranandani. So, we never really felt the need of a campus, but you can't miss what you never had, I guess lol. But Hiranandani was a very lush, elite, safe locality. So, it was great and there were almost no complaints other than small irritants here and there. Like, late night, there was no place where we could actually study, etc. after 12 because the college closed and there was no common area other than the mess in the hostel. But the situation has completely changed now because now we live in the YourSpace hostel which is in a different locality which is not as good as Hiranandani and it's around 20 minutes away by road. So, there are buses arranged. I have been told that the new campus which is in oshiwara Goregaon is being built right now. I don't know how much time that will take though

Firm perception- Now this is very important because HR perception really matters in terms of hiring etc. We see that a lot of colleges have long-term relationships with firms like NLUO- saraf etc. MNLU has had a great relationship with a few firms like NDA. NDA has been partnering with Mediation Bombay which is the med-neg competition organized by the college for years now. Other than that we have seen great responses from CAM, SAM, khaitan, SNR in terms of giving internships and PPOs to MNLU students. So it's not like they're dying to give us jobs but they're not averse to us either.

Overall, it's a very new college, still in its building phase. Things might feel unorganized, but that’s expected as people find their footing. With time, as structures and SOPs fall into place, it has the potential to do really well. Given its limited resources, the college has been managing well—especially considering it's in Bombay, where the energy and hustle are undeniable. I don’t want to romanticize it, but the city's spirit is real, and it naturally pushes you to keep moving. Ultimately, the choice is yours.

I’ll be comepletely honest and list out things you should probably consider

1. Placements- arguably the nost imp consideration. mnlu does not have a day zero scene yet, however i think we might in the next 2 years. Reason- firms simply dont want to take peoplw theough a 10 min intervirew from a college in mumbai when these srudents can intern and be asessed it foesnt have enough face valut yet for firms to be blindingly taking people.

sam, cam, khaitan, s&r all pick up 2-6 (variable, ewnds on firm) people each, every year from the 4th year. they get a fair chabce of proving yheir metal and labding a ppo.

In terma of jobs for the bo 25- around 30 odd people are placed - ppo + campus placement (some firms and companies do come yo conapuw but not on a single day- they come throughout the year)

In my bathc, a lot of us have cbs grom t1s, and potentially are expecting ppos to roll in soon

2. campus- v important consideration given that mnlu currently doesnt have one. We use the mtnl building as our college, and the hostel is yourspace a lil far (bueses arranged by college). earlier we had a hostel bulding right opposite oue college so we jever felt the need of a campuw per say (you cant miss what youve nver had lol) but now we do. Earlier the hostek+ college were both in hiranandani powai- an elite, lush neighbourhood, now the histek is un kanjurmarg- yoursoace has great services - acs, kitchen on every floor but the locality is not that great,.

The sports commutte rents out places for matches and out sports fests etc. Hostel is a 25 min local away from parel, and 40 mins from cst very cery possible to intern.

Admin - seguing from the last point, until now we got 1 month of exemption from college every sem to ibtern and students mostly missed another month on yheir own (while still meeting 70% criteria). now this has changed. studrnta can only miss 18 classes a sem - which means interning even once is a lil teicku because it means not taking a sinhle leave

overall, its not as problematic and nluo etc., but its v nascent they j dont have an sop yet. so they do fuck up here and there. overall, they’re fine but can be better

faculty- not very great. most are undersatnfing and all but barring a few (4-5) notable exceltions, dont expect brilliance. mediocre.

culture- this is j the 5th batch passing out, wo uou can imagine there isnt a very steing culture yet- everything’s very new gut goung in the rughr direftion no bullying and all that crap senior juniot support in terms of moots and othet things improving w time but jot thete yet. If you're under 40 and have a tendency to fall asleep in court then it's not a good thing. This means you're running out of energy very quickly, and you should take a look at your lifestyle.

All of us have dozed off in court now and then, but if it's a habit then judges will start to notice. Other lawyers won't really care - unless, of course, it's a senior lawyer you are briefing. Some tips to deal with this:

(i) Try not to sit for extended periods in court. Stroll near the vicinity of the courtroom to stay awake and keep any eye on the board;

(ii) Avoid heavy lunches;

(iii) Stay hydrated.

Do not worry, dear fellow. You are young and the young can be restless. Nothing to worry about. It's good to vent out from time to time. Keep focusing on that one exam which matters. And believe me, you are not alone in your situation. Some people are more consistent than others. But the point is only to cross the line in time. 82% is good. It crosses the line. 95th percentile is also good. Keep putting in the effort for your dream university. Eventually, you will even meet people who were once in a situation like yours and you will wonder how any of this could have ever bothered you. But such is life. We worry about things which eventually we don't even remember. All the best.

Nothing to worry as such as long as you score high in CLAT , just make sure you don't fuck up your 12th , I have seen people with 65% in NLUs as well . Although the correlation between a High score in CLAT and Good percentage in Grade XII is pretty high , there are outliers as well and if you score the way you are , you will make it in as well , nothing to worry as such imho .

I was stalking the profiles of people(ps don't judge me)at top nlu's on linkedin and almost everyone got fucking mind boggling marks in their boards, I am talking 97% 95% and if not atleast 90%. I know for most of you these marks don't seem anything out of the ordinary but I can't shake this feeling of insecurity even though I have been putting up crazy study hours and have completed over 200 mocks over the past year and have put in atleast 8-9 hrs a day for clat I am constantly in the 95th percentile or higher but I only got 82% in my class 10 boards and have found it very difficult to cope with this even though I never put in any effort in class 10. I know I sound like an absolute fucking buffon but I just wanted to vent about this

If you or your alma mater were truly the “best” in the country, dear fellow, then the country would not be the abyss that it is today. You mistake the citation in your degree as your contribution to your fellow man and woman. It is not. Your problem is that living in a society of scarcity, you confuse your own luck in surviving that scarcity as a proof of your merit. When in fact, your (relatively) isolated existence from all the misery and poverty and misgovernance under which your fellow citizens suffer is an indictment of all that you claim to be. Part of your success is that so many others can never even compete with you because they are too busy trying to survive poverty, stampede, flooding, custodial torture, etc. You know this but instead of acknowledging your own complicity and working to remedy it, you choose instead to engage in a game of semantics. You pretend that success is something only personal, that achievement can only be private. This is how you justify your relative wealth. This is how you forget that you have failed to contribute in your own profession. You have made money, yes, and lots of it too. But you have not improved the world into which you have made that money. You have failed to establish the rule of law where people are not terrified of police and judges. You have given up the responsibility that men and women owe to each other as part of the social contract in creating a civilised discourse. So yes, please enjoy your success. But remember, your children will inherit the same unjust world into which their parents compromised their ideals just so that they could survive a little better than others.

Barring NLSIU (because of alumni reputation and Sudhir’s infusion of good faculty) the NLU brand has become heavily diluted. Most of these colleges have have terrible faculty, incompetent admin, more reserved seats than unreserved ones, poor academic standards because of grade inflation and mediocre placements. Not to forget that every third roadside college has an NLU tag nowadays, cheapening the value of the NLU tag.

This is such a stupid question, it doesn't even deserve a response. Faculty pay? Admin staff pay? Maintaining subscriptions - what happens to your Westlaw, Lexis Nexis etc? Access to E Journals and digitised book databases? Ability to improve student halls infrastructure? Research expenses/grants funding for your faculty? Scholarships/funding for students? What? You think money for this appears magically? No! Governments don't fund universities well. Doners are few, far between and hard to come by. Let the state fund it spectacularly, then we'll talk.

And speaking of "state universities", Oxford and Cambridge are public universities - as are all the good London places and other British law schools worth studying at. You know how much they make their (home/domestic/British) students pay for law degrees that are three (maximum four) years in length? They used to make them pay £9,250 (INR 925,000) per year, now they have raised it, with the government's blessing, to £9,535/year (INR 953,500). People who have done the calculations have confirmed that this tuition fee raise the British government allowed isn't enough to cover universities' needs properly, and that ideally, they should have been allowed to raise it to £12,000/year (in line with inflation) in 2025-26.

The point? A good education costs a lot. You people are so entitled, it's frankly frustrating. Most of you aren't in a position where you can't pay. If you are, the uni could help you. You're just entitled pricks who think your opportunity to receive the best legal education India has to offer - a chance many would die for - is a joke. TBH, I don't mind you wasting this opportunity, it at least reduces the competition for the genuinely hard-working, and alright, you are entitled to your opinion.

Some people (the TLC lobby) who use you as useful idiots tell you to spread a story of your VC being a Lee Kuan Yew-style autocrat? Well, here's where the guy should be autocratic - the fact he isn't being is a sign of how measured he is and how much mental stamina he has to put up with bullshit. He should just, in one fell swoop, teach you guys - all of you who just waste time complaining and bitching and not working - a lesson and shoot the fees up, for you and you only, to the amount that was recommended (but not implemented) for the British universities - meaning you would have to pay, for your legal education only, the equivalent, in Indian Rupees, of £12,000 per year.

PS: You actually wanna complain about something? Here's a tip for free. Why don't talented students in India receive meaningful support financially from the state to read for a degree at university? Look. NLSIU is charging 5 lakh yearly (approx). Now I want you all you justify why is this such a high price thrown in a state institution?

Please :

1. Don't state that in 5 years, you will get a placement that will make you pay the entire course fee in 3-2 years.

2. Don't state you will get financial aids. I have no hopes from any institutions (Harvard/MIT) that even give aids to poor. Scholarships are reserved for rich and the loop goes on.

3. Don't please say, you will get loans easily.

My question is simple:

What service are they providing so good or how do they justify charging so high in an increased batch size? Are they providing us with MIT labs/research hubs/medical equipments/tech softwares/IIT toolkits, that makes it feasible and justified to have this amount?

With increasing scale of business, the costs should reduce. Not go high. That is called economies of scale. With increased batch size and library facilities, the cost should be overall only 2-2.5 for a year max.

Why do we Indian invest in degrees in anticipation of returns? We need to pay just for the services we are being offered, not for the ROI or placements that we might achieve in future. That is dumb. What if I die after the 5 year? How will our families repay? What if I just want to learn law for 5 years and only pay that much what did deserves because I want to sit idle or do something different say Photography or cinematography after law? How will I or anyone do that when already in this "anticipation burden of ROI".

Universities including IIMs charging so high, need to realise that they need to only charge that much for the service they provide. They give us a rate card showcasing the ROI we might achieve in "future". That is basically scam, that is what Byjus Did. He showed the amount that they might achieve in future, and put that as profits. That is resolutely a trap.

It's a pretty good program and among the very few with actual good public policy programs but I would advice you to check out IIT Bombay's MPP , IIM Bangalore's PGDPPM ( Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and/in Management ) . The Development Studies programs at IIT Guwahati , IIT Madras and TISS are good as well and they have a lot of overlap with Public Policy courses ( so placement wise , you won't get the exact role but the body of work you would do will be pretty similar with your peers from MPP ) and NLS's program is good enough and there's no hard schism with B.A.LLB students and LLB students . The department may not seem high ranked at first but NLS as a school is pretty good at interdisciplinary programs and overall the quality of teaching is better than all NLUs out there ( yes , even NLU Delhi but some professors are not that good but that's exception rather than norm , most people in NLS , at least at faculty , can do what they know of and that's all you need at this stage ) but make sure you like this coz MPP though may seem rewarding , the work itself is pretty taxing and writing a dissertation is tough ( like any dissertation )

True , Odisha's probably one of the last places to be , when considering Higher Education , the amount of ragging is insanely high and professionalism is at its worse state , needlessly to say all good institutes placed in Odisha also are not doing well except NIT Rourkela I guess but that too is pretty bad compared to other NITs ( IIT BBSR , IIM Sambalpur etc. etc. ) . One is better off even going to places like Faculty of Law in Central Universities for PhD since they at least have clout in Central University circles ( the likes of DU , BHU etcetera ) but NLUO , Nah .

Simply No , Why ? NLUO has been struggling to place its BA.LLB. batch students ( let alone the 3 year LLB ones ) , it's a fairly new LLB and Cuttack is no happening place to be while doing a PhD , Odisha overall has a pretty low standard for Academics at Higher Education Level . Better go for NLU Delhi , NUJS Kolkata , NALSAR , NLSIU or you can even consider some good Tier 2 ones but good NLUs end here for PhD ( assuming you want to end up in a good place post your PhD ) . Prefer NLS over all others and if you make it there , you'll do fine and at least hope to be placed somewhere good enough ( you can also consider IIM Calcutta , I think they offer a post-doc position for researchers in Business Law since they have executive programs for managers intending to learn business law ) , or you can also consider IIT Kharagpur ( underrated and not same as Top 4 NLUs but better than the rest ) , the IIT tag if used properly can help you as well for decent post-docs abroad .

I have seen this data since I am the one who filed the RTI under which it was released. Fun fact: NLSIU is not on Karnataka RTI portal like other state universities. As a result, the request has to be redirected by another department to NLSIU. Kind of odd, no? Anyway, it is true that NLSIU selects less than the number of positions it advertises. Why? They would probably cite their rules and that the applicants did not meet the necessary criteria to make the cut? Maybe it is true or maybe it is less than true. The point is moot. Ultimately, some do get selected and the process, long and complex that it is, is fair and competitive. There is nothing on record to imply otherwise. And bear in mind that in 2024 only 125 people (83 in law) even applied in the first place. This is ridiculous given how many otherwise eligible candidates there should be in a country the size of India. So maybe the blame is not entirely with NLSIU? It is not like they are drowning in applications. How fair is it to expect a university to mechanically fill in seats even when the applicant pool is so abysmally small? The fact is, students of law in India are simply not attracted enough to do doctoral research, even at NLSIU.

It is not diversity when people are unable to even communicate with each other. And please stop bringing your Dravidian ideology here and your hatred of everything remotely related to North India. By doing so, you are only proving how parochial TNNLU is and how xenophobic its students are.

I am a fresher who has just started working in a law firm. I used to think that drafting was easy and that I could easily convey my points effectively, but ever since I joined this firm, I have been facing some issues. For instance, I have been asked to prepare Written Submissions based on the Petition we have filed. However, the Petition is repetitive and contains unnecessary averments. I have to draft the submissions as per the Court Order, ensuring they do not exceed five pages, including the list of judgments.

If I write a fresh Written Submission, my senior rejects it, saying, "use the language of the Petition." But if I use the language of the Petition, the submissions become bulky. I have revised my draft multiple times, yet I still do not feel fully convinced about it.
