our paper had been selected to be presented at the conference.

then these people took over 1K each from me and my co-author for registration (fair enough ig)

after this we got a mail saying that accommodation, despite the crazy reg fee, would not be provided to us. If we need accommodation we would have to pay 1000 PER PERSON PER NIGHT.

am i being crazy or is this unreasonable? most conferences i feel have the decency to provide free acco to their participants. lmk guys

Looks like a new comer to Mumbai...i had the same feedback when i first landed in Mumbai in 2016. Having lived in Delhi/Gurgaon for 4 years (and Lucknow all my life), I felt that the city was very rude. The cabbie, autowala, every person on the road seemed rude. Now that I have lived for 9 years, I realize that the "rudeness" appears primarily because of the Marathi language. While conversing with Mumbaikars/Marathis, (especially when you are coming from the city of tehzeeb) you feel offended in every conversation and soon conclude that the people are rude. Trust me, its not like that. The interesting part about the language is that it changes from city to city - Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Kolhapur, every place has a different tone. Mumbaikars are nicer than Pune. I had the opportunity to live in Pune and didn't like it for its shitty/so-called development, randomness in everything and pathetic local interactions (rudeness level same as Bangalore!). I hope I was able to give some perspective. Give some time, you will stop hating (if not like/love) this place.

Certainly forget about RML and MNLUM. Before, one might have said neck-and-neck between NLUO and HNLU. HNLU might still be an option to a certain extent, I don't know. But certainly not NLUO anymore. Therefore, go with HNLU and try CLAT again, am sure you can get into a better NLU.

If I go by this website and the critics here then no firm and no team is worth joining. All are the worst in the industry. Then I check linkedin and many people are working there for many years without much cry. Does this mean the worst of the profession arrive at this platform?

This is nonsense. As per rules, Foreign law firms are only going to advise on foreign law aspects. The way this hits law firms is that these corporate sweatshops will have to pay better and give more humane conditions else talent will move to foreign law firms. Individual practitioners are no where hit by it.

Work culture at the AJC Bose Road (Corporate Office) is pretty bad, unless you're a Bong who would fit in well. Professionalism isn't their forte. A certain senior associate is known to be loud all the time, and always got problems with juniors. Partners take hours to have their lunch, while loudly discussing unrelated topics among themselves. The receptionist, ▮▮▮, was a complete pain in the arse for most interns.

Pay differs, depending on your university. They offered us 16.5 LPA packages, which is genuinely good for Kolkata, but I doubt they shell out anywhere as much for non-NLU grads.

Work-life balance may be slightly better than Delhi/Mumbai based law firms (although Saturdays are working), but again, comes at a cost to learning and professionalism.

If you're culturally very much Bengali, have a place to stay in Kolkata, and not very ambitious right away, F&M may be the place for you. If not, then seek opportunities elsewhere.

It's a good old legacy firm with all the trappings of one. The culture isn’t too corporate, and the hierarchy isn’t very rigid. In terms of pay, they specifically offer NUJS graduates significantly higher salaries, though I’m not sure about their policy on NLU graduates more broadly.

KCO’s only big problem in the long run is reporting to multiple partners in the cluster. Cannot go on a leave without intimating all of them, even then if one denies you fucked Bandwidth is never taken care of because every partner cares about their work getting done. Huge problem in the Mumbai one must be similar in Delhi

Anyone who is doing a PhD from NLUO, could you please provide some details on the course. I'm skeptical about the university administration, however they're providing 30K per month for PhD, which no NLU is providing. As a non-Jrf, Should I join ? Is it worth it for the next 3-5 years ?

I am working as an A0 (soon to be A1) in a full service T1 firm IP team. I don't think this is something I wanna continue doing for the rest of my life. I need to switch to a different practice area and I don't mind discounting my experience and start as an A0. What ideally approach can I take in this situation?

I am planning to switch to either GC or TMT. Any suggestions?

You can live your life and not slack off. I am in the last semester and we kinda drink everyday, travel every weekend and still study for the exams with the same rigor. You can stop being a part of journals and committees and re prioritize but the things you end up doing, why do it sub par?
