It is quite bad. The placement committee functions in an opaque manner. The opportunities/ internships available are limited. Professors are average, a lot of the students are rich and entitled who don't have a lot to worry about in their professional life. Fee is high, cost of living is high. Comparatively, HNLU is doing quite well, and is more affordable too. You can consider NLUO too.

Can anyone please let me know which firms are hiring freshers, 2026 Batch. There are very few firms with any teams at all in the first place and the uncertainty about which of them would actually hire is really disheartening. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I (final year student) am currently preparing for an interview for the position of associate at T1. I got shortlisted vide RCC. I was hoping if anyone could help me with what should I study for the interview. What are the basics that are expected out of a cap marks candidate?

Have been seeing scores of posts on this platform which suggest law firm associates will have “lavish weddings” or fancy club memberships. So let me break the reality it down for you:

- Most associates don’t save a lot of money as living in Mumbai is extremely expensive. So question of living an “extravagant lifestyle” doesn’t arise.

-Salaried Partners make enough for a trip or two here and there and maybe buy a house in the suburbs.

-Only after becoming an equity partner and spending a couple of years as that can you afford swanky houses in Bombay, club memberships, luxury cars.

So next time you think about a lavish lifestyle while working in T1, wait for 20-25 years after graduating from law school.

The faculty for such programs are often not an expert in the subject. Some experts are also not that good. Eg: there's a cyber law expert in one of the NLUs, often called in for delivering lectures. She knows jack shit, with all due respect. The research papers are also of poor quality, just repeating IT Act provisions.

I'm a law aspirant(haven't started college yet),and I got a two digit rank in CLAT 2025,yet I already feel hopeless.

Law firm jobs offer good salary,but they ruin your life(no work life balance) and in litigation you earn very less initially and the other avenues seem not so good.

Mobility in law is almost non existent(you can't move abroad as easily as tech),so what even the point of studying law?(Other than a liking for law and passion)

Begs the question on whether this also applies to white collar professions and encourages legal, white collar immigration: including NLU grads who do LLMs and MBAs abroad. 🤔

PS: And for god's sake, stop debasing yourself! If you are at a RG uni, as you claim, you've done reasonably well for yourself, education-wise! Just cause this website's got a bunch of trolls who haunt it making out like NLUs are the gold of legal education worldwide doesn't mean you have to introduce yourself like this! No doubt, in the Indian context, most of the NLUs are worth studying at above all other places (I'd go to most NLUs over Jindal, for example, which is in the international rankings, like your uni, but in the Jindal context that is misleading). Being at a non-NLU law school in India indicates something very different to people about a student's quality of education and (presumed) intelligence compared to being a law student in the UK. Please don't devalue your credentials like this - you do a disservice to yourself, your uni and your parents/family (whoever has invested in your education) by speaking like this. I can understand if you were to be asking on a U.S. equivalent of LI about 'Ivy League tag', but NLU tag? No need for such modesty - it is cringe! Just concentrate on ensuring you can send in a good CV and cover letter to the law firms, that's it. And TBH, use the Indian internships as a springboard to strengthen your experience profile for a vac scheme application, nothing else. Stick to your UK journey, get yourself a TC, qualify as a solicitor and then maybe think again about coming back to India if you so really want it. And even if you do return to India, please, please, don't introduce yourself as a 'non-NLU lawyer' - you'll only get laughed at!

I know somebody who was at a Russell Group uni a couple of years ago (Indian, of course). Currently works as a finance lawyer in a fancy Anglo-American firm (London office). Did an internship at JSA between first to second year of uni. Think this person navigated it via cold emails.

Aashit is gone on a long leave. Effectively settled in London. Doubt he will come back since the two EPs - Utsav and Tirthankar have taken charge. If it were for Aashit, I would have recommended joining JSA. But now no more, the new EPs are a complete no no. This team is now seeing its downfall with no one willing to join and rampant exits. Consequently quality of team and so is the work going for a toss.

So I am in currently in class 12th with commerce and this year's CLAT as you all know was shit and nothing can be made of it other than experience atleast for me, so Should I also take class 12th again in humanities from NIOS and then give CUET with Humanities subjects as my core? And If I get a BA from Hindu college or any other DU college after doing all this would it be worth it as after BA I would also like to pursue 3year LLb(can I do it simultaneously with BA?). I want to try UPSC and JUDICIARY both as my future employment aspects. Please do share your valuable experiences and advices.

Not an answer to the question, but an interesting fact for those who like to know the culture of non-Indian law firms: a London Times report a while back said that some associates in the London Offices of American law firms would have a wedding, just to get a little time off work, and not genuinely because they wanted to get married.
