If you lock up criminals today - some day the state will lock up innocent people isn’t actually convincing. We can actually differentiate in life between like and unlike. We do it everyday. Police conduct raids on drug dens everyday without ever bursting through my house. Security check on airplanes literally check bags everyday and people understand that safety is more important than privacy when you’re up in the air and a crazy person might have a knife or a gun or a bomb.

Privacy is not the only value at play here- the rule of law , the safety of other students and yours , all of that is at play too. The right to privacy is a judicial creation that’s not anywhere in our constitution. Created whole cloth by judges it can be destroyed whole cloth by judges too. Law students should know better than making such simplistic WhatsApp arguments.

In any case I don’t actually disagree with you. I’d like for universities to not check my bags. And for everyone to imbibe whatever substances they choose provided they aren’t being a danger to others. But I do think it should come with responsibility. It’s not fair to demand privacy to do crimes while holding the university accountable for your actions. If you choose to do drugs- your mental decline , your failing academic career , the crimes you commit , whether or not you OD should all be your responsibility alone. Don’t cry or complain about the admin when you won’t give them a shot to fix the problem. If admin catches you with drugs - they are duty bound to initiate criminal proceedings. If you can bear all that responsibility - like the adults you’re pretending to be. Then you have the freedom to do as you choose.

That’s all I’m saying. Explain to me why that’s unfair ? Why do Indian students want to rebel and be babied at the same time? Why ask to be treated like adults when you’re choosing to drown yourself in alcohol and drugs and entering into relationships and then demand to be protected like children when you get in trouble because of your choices ? There’s really no way to have it both ways.

I am completely with the students on this. The administration has spent to bring in scanners, metal detectors, and additional security guards (all costing lots of money) to check students. All of this money has come from the student fees. So the university is using student fees to harrass students. Students paying ₹1 lac a month in fees deserve full freedom. After all, they are funding the university - as customers they have the most say.

If autonomy means that you can commit crimes and then hold university accountable for that, then the university is acting reasonably enough in compromising said privacy. Either behave like adults who are not going to look to the university for protection, but to general law enforcement machinery, or else like people who put their trust into the university in knowing the right thing to do. Can't have it both ways.

This is the constant problem with Indian students at Indian unis (especially the fake "flashy" kind like Ashoka). Always ruining their reputation by protesting about utterly silly, childish, nonsense stuff. At least in Oxford and Columbia and other western unis they are protesting about Gaza. The fact that that stuff is totally wrong-headed also is another matter altogether, but at least they are protesting on serious matters!

You do realise that if you allow arbitrary searches in the name of drugs today, it leads to more and more arbitrary and draconian searches in any other name in the future. Right to privacy is fundamental to our constitution. Today the searches are to prevent drug usage and limited to pocket checks, tomorrow it will be for something else and will even extend to student rooms being searched. It sets a precedent and allows admin to slowly move towards more and more draconian measures to curtail student movement and autonomy.

Hey! I believe its purely luck. I am a first gen with absolutely no connections. I just mailed to her chamber with my CV and a cover letter to show my inclination. It required 2-3 follow ups but I finally got a reply after 2 months. You just have to apply early and keep sending follow ups.

So, wrt NLSIU Stats: 1) 1 Confirmed ppo from s& r 2) 2 ppos under consideration; 1 rejected a ppo offer 3) 3 vacation schemes from A&0, and HSF 4) one mufg wud also take one under their trainee contract 5) multiple people have callbacks from cam currently- around 9-10, and few will do theirs in feb and few june- 6) sam rolled out around 8-10 callbacks too that students will do in feb. so basically people got callbacks from their first internships but wanted to try more- before committing to a firm- so its mostly delayed cause of that- but we might get tons of ppos all together after feb break because a lot of callbacks will happen in feb-- there are around 15-20 callbacks scheduled for feb- so lets see

In the legal field, with experience of 1.5 years now. Litigation, to be exact. Tired of paper pushing work that I do. I know all about that exposure thing one might experience in the litigation space, but the dilemma for me is, that to what end such exposure. Legal system is a sham.

In that case, is there any field where real productivity happens. Like where there is physical manifestation of output for the work done. If innovation and STEM careers are an alternative for this, then how can one transition to such space without much hiccups.

Has anyone applied for an internship at Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, New Delhi Office, for February 2025? I applied back in November but there has been no response on their end yet. I understand that Vidhi Delhi has always been tardy in getting back on internship status, sometimes confirming acceptance a literal day before the internship is due to start. So I was just wondering if the selections have not been made yet, or have they been made and I've been rejected.

Has anyone applied to Project 39A for an internship in February? I applied back in November, cleared the first stage of the application process, and sent a thousand-word writing sample for the second stage. This was 19 December. There has been absolute radio silence on their end since then.

So I am wondering if the selections have already been made, or have they not made them yet, presumably because they are busy with shifting to NALSAR.

How wise would it be to leave my job after completing one year and pursue this travel plan? Also, would I be able to re-enter the workforce after taking such a break?

The intent behind your post is correct but several factual errors. I work in a large Tax Lit firm in Bombay. We brief several seniors everyday. It’s a small cohort though - maybe 5-6 on each the direct and indirect side - so you are correct that it is concentrated in very top end. However, each of these busy senior does multiple matters a day, even a new senior we briefs charge

Its because senior advocates are briefed by law firms. Do you think its easy to just go to court and argue a case? Dispute teams in Law firms spend days on a case to brief the senior advocate.

Its just pure nepotism and connections that help Senior Advocates make that kind of money. A chamber of a senior Advocate would not be able to handle so many big cases otherwise.

being from an NLU gives you an edge in the competition, for sure. But ppl i’ve spoken to (including coaching centre faculty) tell me that it’s going to be extremely tough if you want to to get an internship opportunity or if you want a job after you’re done with schooling.

Im going to give my 100% ofc, including participating in extra curricular activities. But there’s still this fear in me that spending all the money is not going to end up being worth. we’re not very financially well off either.

Because as an aunty who’s daughter studies in an NLU told me “The top recruiters aren’t even going to look your way”, “You’ve got to beg for jobs” and “Getting a Tier 1 would be like a dream”

maybe she exaggerated that a bit but i still cant help but wonder, is being from a Non-NLU really that unsafe? even if i do give my all, will i be cooked lol?

and please do tell me if i should go for SLSH or SLSN since those are the best options i have in my hands rn. I was aiming for pune but fell extremely sick on the day of SLAT and here i am. drop is not an option either.

how can i compensate for not having the advantages that come with being an NLU student? Will that really be a huge problem?
