Even if you were to meet a family oriented, make-your-own-bread milk-your-own-cow type of homesteader usually portrayed on "tradwife" spaces- she likely wouldnt be interested in someone who plans to slave for corporate overlords, not take an active role in raising children or who wouldnt know how to fix a light bulb let alone build her a house. Indian men want the women to be "family oriented" instead of career oriented, but they themselves arent similarly family oriented at all. What they want is a bangmaid, not a marriage.

What you mean is that you are incapable of being a good husband and want to marry someone who is poorer and less financially stable than you are in hopes that she will put up with your bad behaviour all her life. That is the reality atm. Most of my male senior partners (read who spends more time at work) have trad wives who take care of everything else. There are very less instances of two successful senior lawyers married where both can have their careers equally. Even in such case, the burden is on the female partner to manage the household.

This is a shit show. Genuinely the BA law and 3 Year llb need to cut down their acts and collectively join to protest. Even if not protesting, help get rid of Ved Kumari. Her term will be one more year and she has been hell-bent on ruining everything from mental health to fests. Someone needs to alert the consortium of NLUs and BCI. This is an even semester and we have a record of suicides in every even semester.

Having seen this university for the past five years, all I can say is that the nose dive is for real. The admin is cranky and stupid at its best. The only good thing about this university is the caliber and hardwork of the students hustling in it. I am afraid, with the lack of academic support and irrational policy changes, the present placement stats will become a distant dream for the future batches (except only if the current admin is totally done away with)

The classes for any student cannot be for 12 hours on any given day, that's just a hyperbole. Just because the timetable goes on from 9 to 8 doesn't mean that a student will have every class during this period. Moreover, there is a simple way of sorting this out. Make groups of electives and ensure that students choose one group or the other. So that simultaneous classes can go on. You can't have the choice of any combination that you want and still retain the luxury of ending classes early.

From your tone, maybe you communicated it to them like you were expecting them to be impressed? People don't react well to that kind of thing. Not to pick on you but I'm just pasting what you wrote below and will leave you to find the contradiction:

I don’t know if it’s easier to get into Harvard for a phd or nls. Maybe the former might have fewer applicants but it still might be more competitive and demand more from applicants to even be considered than NLS does. Acceptance rates only tell one bit of the story. They tell you how many others applied. They don’t tell you how many of the others that applied were serious applicants, they don’t tell you how good the other applicants were - nothing. If you went by acceptance rate alone, everyone working in the services should be a genius and given the small number of people who are ever even nominated for the MacArthur grant, it must be quite easy to get .

Honestly I don’t care either way. It’s the work you do during your phd that matters to me, whether it’s interesting or novel or rigorous, not necessarily the institution. But I will say - on average institutions in the west demand more rigor from the work of their phd students than institutions in India do.

Chances are if they don't know CAM or Trilegal, they'll not know Ashurst or Linklaters.

Simple: those people don't have either the smarts or the balls to even try. They are just venting their spite onto you. Leave them alone. They know they are the trash and who the true giants of Indian legal academia are. While yes there are many who stuck around in India for further study after undergrad, tell me where the majority of them come from? They won't be able to because they know that next to those professors, they are hash.

This was a ragging ritual at all NLUs decades ago. Seniors would get a junior high on alcohol and drugs, then force him to do black magic rituals calling ghosts. I think the idea was for seniors to prank juniors by making noises and pretending to be ghosts and scare juniors, who were already impaired in their senses because of intoxication. But you would hear stories of how ghosts sometimes would REALLY show up and how students would be cursed. In reality, it was trauma because of forcible intoxication and bullying. This is what led to the practice being discontinued. It was a horrible and cruel form of bullying. And Gen X/Gen Y have the audacity to ridicule Gen Z! Yes, we would rather be woke than cruel!

I can relate! I have been struggling to find a job in law for six seven months now ( I am from 2024 batch). Despite approaching various small to large law firms, I've been met with rejection.

The common response is that I need experience, but when I reach out to counsels to join their chambers, their juniors tell me to gain experience by working in a law firm. I was ready to not expect any monetary compensation in litigation. I know how litigation is. But even in small law firms you don’t get paid.

And guess what, I have seen few people directly join chambers of some renowned lawyers directly after graduation. And then I found out about their whole family background.

It's a vicious cycle. Law firms want experience, but the only way to get that experience is by working in a law firm. I'm caught in a loop with no clear way out. Some small law firms even mentioned that I must work for 24:7 with no pay and no weekend off.

I've also offered to work for free to gain experience in litigation, but even that hasn't yielded any opportunities.

I'm starting to regret pursuing law. I wish I had taken my entrance exams like CLAT more seriously, despite getting into a good institution through MHCET. However, they didn't have a strong placement program. No doubt people give up on this career.

I'm not blaming anyone entirely, but I realize I must be lacking somewhere. Then why don’t they give me feedback instead of vague responses.

Despite doing well academically and securing good internships, I'm not getting anywhere.

Everyone I ask for help seems so so insecure and unwilling to offer guidance, recommendations or feedback. I'm feeling frustrated and lost. It’s literally taking toll on my mental health.

I was a defense aspirant (wanted to be an infantry officer) but have weak eyesight and bad in maths so gave up on NDA and went for NEET hoping to join the Army Medical Corps. I dropped for NEET this year (2024) but it was simply not for me. I was getting a shitty off campus college in DU through CUET and almost went there (hoping to give CDS on graduation) but the college was simply trash. A friend whose dad is a judge suggested CLAT (and I have always been kinda interested in law) so I initially wanted to go for either JAG or judiciary but the sheer amount of money that you make in law firms is tempting me.

Personally, it has always been my dream to serve as a commissioned army officer, preferably in the combat arms, more preferably the infantry, but I understand that is not possible for me anymore.

I have 5 years to decide on my future path but for now I think I will either go for a law firm head on or try for JAG and live out my dream, albeit on a limited scale.

Is it a good idea to move in house after 1 PQE? I personally cannot take the workload of working in a T1 anymore or deal with certain people, and I am willing to take a paycut. I'm more concerned about the other tradeoffs that may be there in moving in house so early on. Please provide insight about what to expect if I do this.

There is a common pattern that settles the point beyond doubt. Other NLU students and alumni, including practitioners also agree that NLS is a fantastic place to study at, perhaps the best in the country. On the other hand, only NLUD students and alumni believe that NLUD is the best place to study law at. That makes all the difference.

I am in a T1 NLU (not NLS, NALSAR or NUJS, take your pick out of the two left). I have 5-6 T1 and T2 internships post my second year, all in M&A or Cap Marks, but did not convert into a PPO. Apart from that, I have decent publications in reputed blogs and a journal piece, along with several wins in competitions and other extracurriculars. The only sticking point is that my batch rank is dead average - like exactly in the middle of my batch. How screwed am I when it comes to campus placements?

In terms of future preparation:- China is winning all important races -- the AI, ML, Exports, Robotics -- you name it. Who is stupid enough to be impressed by this? It’s a university- they should first focus on teaching students properly, stopping fraud, and having some small measure of academic rigor. Then on whether their students are able to get jobs or look after themselves.

What kind of idiot falls for this ? Do they think their doctor is really good if he hangs out with celebrities instead of treating them? Do they think their accountant is very good if he spends all his time talking about his fancy new house instead of handling their finances?
