I had a doubt regarding eligibility criteria of JMFC.
I had one backlog during LLB which I have cleared with 60% but I won't be eligible because all subjects of LLB should be cleared in first attempt as per criteria.
What if I clear LLM examination in first attempt with 55% above..I will be eligible or I need 3 years of litigation experience?

Better to join DU. Less classes, more time for internships, less fees, more connections. Can even work around the year with advocates and firms. I know people who attend classes in the morning and go to chambers in the evening throughout the year. Could you imagine a year long internships on your CV.

Hi, thanks a lot for replying. Problem is I while I have applied plenty, I haven't get a lot of replies in general and the only corporate law internship I thought I had didn't pan out plus November is beyond late for fresh applications and most firms are closed for the winter as far as I can tell.

I'll get mostly litigation internships now is the problem, should I just suck it up and do entirely litigation internships? I'm just a bit confused.

That's a different scene. NLS needed the land, Karnataka government needed the domicile reservation. Easy enough exchange. NUJS while starved for land, does not need additional campuses in the middle of nowhere. So West Bengal government does not have any new carrot to offer to the institution. It had already got domicile reservation of 30% by giving NUJS a small piece of land.

State university will remain a state university. A time when andi-mandi-sandi institutes are getting institute of eminence/importance status, NLUs can't even get a central status. Even deemed & pvt universities are much better than this, atleast they have full autonomy in their affairs.

NLS has struggled to get an additional 15 acres since 2020, when the Expansion Plan was announced. Sudhir did a webinar with the students to show how the existing campus would be expanded by 15 acres, but BU refused and asked for a 50% domicile reservation. Now, we are getting 7 acres for 10 extra seats. The number of seats for non-Karnataka students is not reducing; they are increasing the total number of seats to accommodate them.

I don't know why so many people in the comments are treating this as a 'gotcha' moment saying this shows nls is going downhill. If anything, it is really unfortunate and shows how badly NLUs have to struggle for some extra funding and for infrastructure development. Most of NLS's recent infra is due to donations from private bodies like Infosys Foundation, JSW, Luthra, Thakur Foundation and so on. Still, it has to have these quid pro quo negotiations with the State Government for some extra resources.

If I was Sudhir, I would have proposed this compromise solution:

- 100% Karnataka reservation in SC/ST/OBC quota, across BALLB, LLB, LLM and MPP

- 50% Karnataka reservation in EWS quota, across all courses.

- No reservation in merit list.

Such a formula would have balanced meritocracy with political compulsions.

IMO, for some people that is the only source to connect with professionals like yourself! I agree it might be annoying to directly receive so many requests on a daily basis but you can consider giving a chance to someone with a decent CV though!

i got 2 T1 internships because thankfully the partners were kind enough to read the mails for just 10 seconds, which included the work and area very closely related to the one done by the team, in essence making their lives easier(in case they are hiring). I can assure you the candidates in your mails are as good as (if not better) than the interns you get only through filtering applications based on CGPA.

Hey everyone. I am a recent law graduate (2024) from a reputed govt. college with a 3 yrs LL.B. degree. I am facing this dilemma, as to whether to stick to litigation or switch to academics (i.e. doing a masters from a NLU etc) Although, my interest lies in litigation, but sometimes I get very skeptical about my decision as to whether it's a right call or not.

In my case, my family's financial situation is not to good.

What do you think, will it be feasible to work as an ADA in prosecution department in Haryana, say for 5 or 10 years and then switch to Independent practice in the HC at Chandigarh.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I would not solely rely on Wikipedia for accurate information. However, it is a great place to start your research - some of the citations in the Wikipedia can be your second round of reading, and then you can go further in depth by reading the citations in these articles/sources.

Several comments seem to suggest you just deal with it, which is an option for sure, if the $ is enough of a payoff for you.

Truthfully, there are many different ways to live, and when we are stuck in the law firm loop (I was as well) it is hard, in that low-energy state, to even allow yourself to imagine how else you might build a life and find happiness.

But that’s a limitation of imagination. I quit that life and went on to make good money as a lawyer but by making different choices that allowed me more time and freedom. I would obviously have made more in pure cash terms by staying with a tier-1 - but I honestly felt the ‘price of that money was too high.

I completed my law degree from law fac, DU more than 3 months back but still sitting jobless and anxious about my future. I pursued an unemployable ba degree prior to this and felt the need to top up my resume with a llb degree. 3 years later I find myself in a familiar situation.. I have applied to thousands of jobs but nothing so far other than rejections. Even during law school I struggled to secure proper internships.. even the ones I got in somehow, I was not able to make much of an impact since my research and drafting skills were sub par. At this point frankly, I’m coming to terms with the fact that this law degree was a sunk cost and equally as ineffective in boosting my career prospects.

I don’t see myself going after yet another meaningless degree or chasing dead end low-paying roles in sales, call centers, or academia. Right now, my skill set is pretty basic, I have a working knowledge of MS Office and can touch-type. I’d really appreciate any advice on how to make a career correction that will actually lead to employability soon. I don't have any passion/aim other than financial independence and stability. I’m open to starting from scratch and willing to put in the effort.

It's been some time.

I will try to keep it short. I come from a non-nlu university (undisputedly the first line in every LI cry-for-help post, I think) and I never had the opportunity to intern with those big guzzling corporate law firms even after "decillion" attempts. These rejections never affected me but they did push me towards litigation while all this time I hoped for a career in corporate. So, bits and crumbs for experience in corporate.

Anyway, (to make things worse) I graduated this year; with the same fate and the same determination. I made a list of all the law firms and started applying. My rejections were obvious and evident but I don't intend to give up as I have clouds and mountains for dreams. I am still at hunt, but while I am at it, I also started working in litigation, just to keep myself sane. Pay is peel of the peanut but the work keeps me busy (and I am learning something everyday at least). However, I don't intend to keep working in Litigation. I don't think litigation experience holds any value for such firms and thereby I have decided to start afresh. I believe it is not too late, I will apply to every kind of law firm handling transactions or Cap Markets or PE&VC and for that I need help and suggestions from everyone here at LI.

So, pls help me with any leads or names of such law firms where hiring is rather easy and immediate.

LoL, seems like their new HR is quite active on LI now. It's baffling how hard ICUL is trying to market their toxic work culture and hide the recent mass exits from the firm.

Although, I have to admit their fund setup practice is one of the best (in terms of quantity) in India.

Other than that, Saturdays are mostly working, one Saturday every month is officially working.

And the work culture is toxic half the time (I hear daily about the work culture from one of my flatmates).

Everyone remaining is in their own bubble criticizing KCo and Trilegal, as to how bad they are. Which shows how insecure they are. But that's okay considering that they're trying to retain their workers.

Yeah. They quite obviously are. The kind of identity politics that NLU students are obsessed with matters very little to most Indian people. They care about jobs and wages far more than they do about intersectional queer theory or rights to self determination for non citizens. Many students at NLUS- although not all- also come from the elite sections of society, never having seen poverty. They have never been to a trade union meeting and don't know what farmers' issues are. They live in a bubble on campus and do not interact with the local population. They barely have any real understanding of the country's history or its problems. They really do think that everything they see on social media is real. And those who fashion themselves activists in these places are really quite clueless- flitting from one cause du jour to another because their instagram algorithms told them to.

Of all the injustices perpetrated by Jindal Steel - what do JGLS students protest about? Palestine. Honestly, it's delusional thinking. Of all the problems faced by workers in Karnataka, what are NLS students most concerned about? that their VC is mean to them. NALSAR exists in a complete bubble where students think their civil rights are being violated by allowing BBA MBA students to have student representatives in student government. And where their teachers tell them that it is revolutionary to get an mx on their degree certificate- rather than- endlessly self-indulgent. This is what passes for activism in a law school in a state where tenant farmers are protesting for compensation after floods and haven't been able to make their voices heard. This elite move away from class issues to identity will make the left lose the country for a generation.

I don't really have a problem with elite academic spaces engaging in academic research and discussion- that is how we solve some problems. What I do have a problem with is what passes for research in our elite institutions today. Which is mostly ideologically driven, poorly evidenced nonsense with no connection to reality. And this stuff helps well-off people clothe themselves in victimhood. What passes for even "good" empirical research is- interviews with five of your queer academic friends about navigating caste and queerness in modern India. Or writing some nonsense about how India decriminalising homosexuality is really pinkwashing. This stuff gets awards. It has no credibility at all, and we've gotten to the point that we cannot even call bullshit on this so-called "research" because the authors will clothe themselves in victimhood because of their claimed identities. It's the death of truth and the death of real, impactful research and critical thinking

And honestly, this elite capture of the left will have serious consequences for poor people and labourers and farmers at the voting booth. The best thing academics can do is to be a little mindful and self-aware at this point instead of sucking up all the air in the room.

Trump has the support of some of the richest people in the world - Musk, Putin, Melon are all billionaires. He was very good friends with Epstein, and is friends with the Kennedys and Kardashians as well. While Democrats in the US also have support from billionaires like Swift or Beyoncé it's superficial PR support and not actual friendship or sustained help in any way. The Republicans are far richer than the Democrats.
The issue starts with education. While the Republican party top are all elites from rich families who went to top-tier schools, their voter base is mostly not very highly educated, not very socially aware of progressive people. That means pandering to them using billionaires as props will completely backfire and they are very aware of it which is why they declare themselves to be "of the people" even though they tend to move to other states or countries the second temperatures get high (hi Ted Cruz). It's like if someone from the Gandhi family in India suddenly declared they pulled themselves up by their bootstraps. Complete nonsense.

Coming to NLU graduates, NLUs aren't super affordable for a lot of people. I know people who got into the top 5 NLUs but couldn't go because of money since local colleges charge 25-35k a semester instead of 100k or more. India is a very poor country but it is easy to live in a comfortably middle class burble without ever actually seeing proper poverty

Any idea about some firms in Pune? Salary structure, work environment, things like that? I was looking at -

1. Stratjuris - do they only do IP work? I talked to a guy who'd moved to an inhouse position from there and he had zero experience of contracts or anything that wasn't core IP.

2. Rishabh Gandhi - I interned with a girl from there but all I got out of her was that some associates were fun to spend sutta breaks with lol

3. Reddy & Reddy - I've heard they're well-established but I know nothing of them

4. SRB Ojas - seem to be expanding suddenly in the last year but I can't find anything online about them

Hi all, fourth year nlu student here. So I had been trying to get an internship at Trilegal for jan 2025 since june. After multiple followups, I received the assessment links like most of us did but now I've been told by the hr post the assessments that the slots for jan 2025 are all filled and they can only offer me an internship march onwards. The thing is, my uni gives the internship break only in jan-feb and july. I planned to intern at trilegal in jan and then wished to secure a call back for july so that there could be some scope for a ppo, but that looks unlikely to me as I can only intern there in july 2025 now :(

What should be my possible plan of action here if I still want to try for a ppo from this internship?
