Salary increases as you advance in your career. My friends in corp firms who started with 12 LPA 9 years ago are making more than four times that now, many are making even more and are partners. Unless you lifestyle creep to a crazy degree you’ll be able to save enough by 45/50 if you do a good job at the corp firm and get promoted on time and make smart career moves.

Prices of everything are rising so much. Just the other day I ordered a tiny pizza the size of a idli and it cost me Rs 600. On top of that Nirmala Tai is extorting every last drop of blood of the middle class in taxes. I just don’t understand how y’all can talk about FIRE like it’s so easy? Like, the bare minimum for a SINGLE person to retire NOW at age 45 would be 20 cr AT LEAST I would say. So by the time we all turn 45 we will need 60 cr at least.😰

Eh, no one who is in college now should be too sure of their politics. That includes you and your batchmates. Try not to talk politics for a term or so—you can still think, read, and mull over things you want, but constantly talking politics makes you dull and makes you view people only through ideology. Make friends with others who don't talk politics either. Talk about philosophy, ethics, music, movies, your careers, the law, sports, and whatever else.

Once the year is over you will realise that some of this was you being hyper focused on politics and others being hyper focused on politics. I have many friends across the political spectrum and did so while I was in college even when my batch largely split along political lines. The way to do it was to not talk politics and instead talk to people. If you want good friends- be a good friend. And avoid people who are making politics their entire identity, too.

Family run firm through and through, extremely nitpicky. They dont have a great clientele and the working environment is subpar. Extremely low pay and not much scope for growth within a firm at all. But definitely a nice bunch of people, and respectful in their dealings with people.

1. Know your CV like the back of your hand: You will have to know the basics of the acts that you are mentioning in your CV as well. For example, if you have worked on IBC in your past internships, you should be able to answer things like the waterfall mechanism, the difference between financial and operational creditors, etc, and any relevant section that you have mentioned in your CV.

2. Basics of Contract, Arbitration, Consti and CPC.

I have. Not for arguing cases mind you, for getting into alterations and being a bully. And the VC at the time was his uncle, and a lot of the people who shared the campus with him allege brazen favouritism. I don't understand if these articles are trying to highlight his glowing University career or underline a promising litigation practice. But quite frankly, other than these clearly self-written promotional pieces, I'm yet to see evidence of either.

From around when I was at NLS, Rahul Singh, Namita Wahi, and Aparna Chandra, are in academia in India. Rahul wasn't the topper but was in the top 5 for sure. The other two were 1st rankers. He and Namita went to Harvard, and Aparna went to Yale. Rahul and Aparna teach at NLS, and Namita works at CPR in Delhi.

To satisfy your curiosity there is so much info posted below. I can only tell you with my experience of over 20 years in the profession that almost every graduate of NLS Bangalore is successful whichever batch you take. A class topper or those in rank 1-10 or the last rank or those in rank 70-80 have same career trajectories. Rarely an NLS graduate is mediocre or not able to attain her full potential. Take any batch and you will be find equally successful and chilled out individuals.

Hey guys I have a huge chance of getting a PPO from a T1 in which I am currently Interning. But I have another assessment scheduled with a better team at a different T1. I am also very hopeful about getting a PPO from my second internship. If the first firm offers me an PPO who long can I stall them long enough to wait for my outcome at the second internship?

If they are from top IITs and the likes, they more far more money than any corporate lawyer can make. Even some chaps from local tech colleges get into good well paying companies, they too get paid good. When you compare an average engineer, then the corporate lawyer earning beat theirs.

Basically the title. I have come across many engineers 2-3 years into their profession who are making 30 plus base salaries (not CTC, just to clarify since this is the common thing that we say when talking about salaries in other professions). To top it of they also have better WLB, less toxic environments, better career progression. I need some perspective on why being a Corp lawyer is better in the long run. Insights will be appreciated.

It’s not some great gotcha to say womens games in some sports are more boring- they are- I’ve admitted they are. Mens games are boring too. That’s just aesthetics and personal choice . My whole argument is about what is valued enough to put money into and why, and who is thought of as a possible sports fan and why. And how we think of sports or female bodies generally.

Obvious question to ask is whether this could happen in the case of law colleges as well??? Will the Galgotia Law Schools of the world shut down and their professors work as delivery boys?? Or is law immune from economic turmoil and there are jobs for everyone???

a) top 5 NLUs can only provide jobs to about a third of their cohort (the placement numbers do not show how many total students were there in the batch, they would only say how many students sat for the placement process and there are lots of massaging of denominator there)

b) law schools cannot provide jobs for all those who want, it depends immensely on the chutzpah of the candidate. Even then there so many factors that only about a quarter of all applicants get a job in a law firm.

c) if you want a job or a modicum of chance of a job after a degree, you may consider doing an MBA, I know this is an often mocked suggestion, but it is possible to get a job at 30k pm at a bank after mba which is not possible after llb. So, if it is the first job that you are after and you do not want to stay in law then MBA is the only option.

d) if you want to stay in law then doing llm is not going to add any employability value. It would be better if you just be a junior under a decent senior (decent does not mean that thay will pay you, decent means they will not abuse you and give you a chance to fill out vakalatnama once in a while), stay with them for one year gain experience and then strike it out alone.
