And as it happens, I completely agree with you - full disclosure, I am a student in England. There is enough talk in western societies of people being deceived about the benefits of immigration. Trust me, they literally don't want you - nobody, British or Americans, left/liberal or right/conservative. In their eyes, the net immigration statistics are out of control and they have royally fucked themselves. They would view taking another loudmouth social media activist as more fucking of themselves. A portion of their political class (and their population) literally believe that taking in people like the OP is making their borders less secure. Trust me, I have had four years to observe this phenomenon. Do with what I have said as you will. 1. The point that "they have no business" asking for your social media IDs is very interesting, especially if you are a law student. How do you know what powers INS/CBP have or don't have? Also, are you assuming first amendment rights apply to you? Remembering that you do not hold a U.S. passport?

2. Remember what somebody else has pointed out, those are Americans, you are a foreigner. You are asking to go to their country.

3. Please do not leave that box blank. Overall, better to disclose. The last thing you want them saying is that they rejected your application because you withheld relevant information.

You are the one begging them to let you in. Not the other way round. Quietly delete all your social media accounts and start putting up pro US government posts that are supportive of every viewpoint - Republican, Democrat, Libertarian etc. Start talking with a big of a twang and a drawl so your interview is as smooth as possible. To those who have been practicing the same, how satisfying is it to feel that you're somewhat a part of change?

Is the thought of judiciary being fulfilling too idealistic? Does one simply do judiciary because it was their best shot or offered the most comfortable life or is it something more than that, rather something sacrificial in nature?

Is that what we've become? Robotic cogs ensuring that our selfish desires are fulfilled even if we've a position to possibly be the change?

Or even the discussion itself is pointless and it is just as another position and you're merely obligated to get your job done? Just a thought, what does the community think?

Purely in terms of numbers, Kartikey’s team at Khaitan cannot be compared to SAM. His team has barely three juniors. SAM has five partners (inc two new ones), one Counsel and a lot of mid and junior members. SAM has multiple members with expertise across sectors and is still a one stop destination for major players. This is classic example of river joining the ocean. MMS has huge clients. He has one of the best practice and insane client base. You name the biggies - L&T, IDFC, JSW, etc. He has them. He is meant to work with big places and synergies. Happy for him.

Now, coming to work culture, it’s difficult. Being in CAM, his team will definitely get good pay (and not discriminatory pay like SP). But, work culture may become challenging given the pressure and cut throat competition at CAM.

I graduated in 2009 right after the financial crisis and without a job in hand. I was stressed for the 3 months it took me to get an offer and couldn’t do anything that helped me get over it.

I'm a first generation female lawyer and i have been in practise for the past two years and recently I joined another chamber to learn criminal work. My senior is a good lawyer and has a great practise. He practises here at Indore. My previous senior recommended me to him. For the first few days, my senior treated me well, but after that he stopped even acknowledging me. He barely gave me any files, all i get is somewhat drafting work. He has a son who's also in practise and he gets to do all the work. At first, I thought it might be temporary and he would eventually acknowledge me and assign me a file, but it has been quite some time and he still hasn't given me any files. Also, to make things worse, his son is very arrogant and doesn't even talk to me nicely. He shouts at me at the smallest instance or mistake. I feel so anxious around him. Moreover, my senior doesn't even notice me in court and would just ignore me and would talk to other people. I'm feeling so neglected at this chamber,my previous senior was great and he treated me well. Here I'm neither getting paid nor I'm getting any work. Should I quit? I don't know what to do.

Hi there - where working in law is all about understanding law as it is in force today, working in policy is all about the evolution of law tomorrow. People who work in public policy guide their clients on changes they expect in law in the short, medium and long terms, thereby helping future-proof client businesses. It's all about understanding historical context and regulatory intent (why do some sectors see heavier regulation than others), connecting the dots between local, national and international politics with the impact on specific issues (does war in one part of the world impact manufacturing policy in other parts of the world and how will that impact client businesses), helping clients participate in regulation-making and put across their perspectives in regulatory debates (consultations on upcoming laws, seeding approaches to light/ heavy regulation with government agencies), opportunity spotting for partnerships between the government and clients on shared policy goals (consumer education around digital payments frauds), to name a few.

The work itself can be different from the practice of law in terms of structure and creativity. It also differs immensely based on the nature of organisation one works at - a law firm versus a think tank versus in-house. Broadly all of them cover the above stated areas, but the time each kind of organisation spends on them differs.

Who on earth said 14 cr for rest, the math here was meant to say 14 crore for all expenses plus maybe 1 crore as an emergency buffer. Aka 15 crore total even if you take an extremely safe approach of buying houses rather than the most efficient plan of investing in the equities market.
