2 and 3. He has sat with the CM in this very year in public platforms in Kolkata itself. He even came to within 1 km of the university but chose not to visit it. He keeps visiting other universities on random occasions and shares stages with other controversial political figures. For crying out aloud, he invited Modi to his home for a puja!

It does. NUJS has done so too. However, that does not answer the question why the Chancellor is neglecting his duties. If he could not come himself, then he could have easily deputed another SC judge to fill in his stead. That has been done plenty of times in the past. This was a deliberate slight by DYC. A lot of students consider convocation a special occasion, for many it represents the only university degree award ceremony that they get to experience for themselves and their parents. Not holding it means betraying their emotions. They don't deserve that.

I can tell you what I heard from a senior HC lawyer. Apparently other judges are also reluctant to come. They are worried that Mamata will misuse the podium like last time. The other issue that none of the SC judges really need to cosy up to Mamata. She is a regional politician who not only has zero clout outside Bengal, but is also being opposed by the BJP, Left and Congress simultaneously. So why befriend a friendless politician?

No way will Chandrachud visit Bengal while the Abhaya case and protests are on. The situation is very volatile. If he comes, the local media will report it heavily and will accost him at the venue. Social media will give all sorts of conspiracy theories if Mamata lands up at the venue and meets him (which she will). On top of that, the student protestors will surely land up at NUJS with a petition addressed to him. Other protestors will carry placards, write letters in blood (which they already have) etc etc. It’s too risky for him to come now.

He was the visitor of the RMLNLU before becoming the CJI in Nov. 2022. He (as the Visitor) avoided presiding the Convocation with Chief Minister sharing the dias for six years. After becoming the CJI, he presided over the RML convocation in August 2024 and the CM of UP had to receive him on the gate. But, the Visitor (a Supreme Court judge) did not attend the Convocation in Lucknow.

In India, Universities are very VC oriented institutions. B.R. Ambedkar University, Delhi was perhaps an excellent institution about 7-8 years ago, today you see teachers departing in droves from there. Ranbir Singh saw potential in a few people and gave them their specialization to teach in NLUD. But when these VCs go away, the universities are a former shell of themselves. A central university will give you 2 advantages - pay commissions are applied faster sometimes and you may not have to put too much effort into teaching and you can focus on writing papers. But whether it's good or not depends on your own luck.

Same false promises have been made this year too. Increments were promised to be disbursed by Aug 16 but no one has got them till date.

Purpose of delay is to make interest on the buy from Luthra's family and exploit the juniors. Not a fair management / leadership style.

The issue is that the question pertains to a larger problem, as NRCB data shows that the toll is 27 cases per day. Most often, such cases do not have anything to do with academic pressures. What I gather from many is that NLUD has perhaps the most relaxed system of academics. There is no detention policy, a lesser number of classes, and the best teacher-student ratio (1 to 10). Even all other law schools only implement the BCI syllabus and nothing much beyond that. So, there is a need to have a deeper understanding of these issues.

All losses are tragic. The media portrayed a false picture. In two of the cases, the incidents occurred at their respective places under their parents' care, so only one case occurred on the campus. The student body and administration have jointly worked to mitigate the implications. NLUD is a resilient community with the best of everything, and I, as an alumnus, am sure it will respond to all situations effectively.

I have in my life never ever seen a college as worse as this UNIV, I wish I had never been a part of this campus. Students, so mean that they talk of extra online classes just because of their Internships even after so much of suicide. The way this useless SBA functions hiding so much of Information and asking Students and Alumni to be "sensitive" while publishing in Media just because they believe they are negotiating with the administration. Undoubtedly, It's a failure. Minutes of the meeting was a pathetic read to have gone by. Arrogancy and Incapability of Admin is just next level. Rarely do they care or even talk. It's just superficial. All bureaucratic, red tapism and protocols. Extremely painful Academic curriculum with super high expectations of faculty members. They are well read people but how do they expect everybody to go into Academia or don't do anything apart from Reading for their subjects. Some Profs randomly fail students and feel proud of it. Admin doesn't do anything on placements and says it to be Students run committee. Absolute politics and abysmal placement statistics. God save the University and the way it is functioning. Just glorifying name on Social Media hiding all the Internal toxicity.

I have obtained an internship opportunity with a T3 law firm and also a judicial internship at the HC (one of the Presidency towns); however, the timelines for the same are clashing with one another, and hence I have to prefer one over the other. So, can anyone provide some insight as to which experience would be better for CV value, and which internship should anyone facing the same conundrum prefer? Lately, I have realised people here have lots of negatives to talk about. Give them anything and they'll say we don't like this.

Under former VC - Things were as corrupt as things could have been. She didn't even wish to listen. Nobody was allowed to meet her. Seniors Profs used to get their work done.

Now, Classrooms have become better, Programs keep on happening. The office of VC is approachable. Students are able to pursue what they wish to do. Collaborative teaching is a failure. The hike in scores were also because probably few batches complained of 70% thing in MP Judiciary as the crowd is mostly leaned towards Judicial Services. Placements are lagging which is collective failure of Admin, Alumni and some students. The good ones have great CV but the average crowd comes with useless CV because of Sarkari Naukri engrained in their mind due to probably Bihar Culture.

People in general are less exposed but really helpful. Competitive culture is surely lagging which has both positives and negatives. Faculty wise it is a pure mess. God bless earlier Administrators, New recruitment is awaiting the tests. The LRM Prof was extremely horrible due to whom none of the crowd could start writing papers.

Beyond Academics, Its a chill place. I mean even Academics is. You'll have to invest yourself to learn. Approach people to be taught. Seniors are helpful. Juniors are like Friends. Admin should be somehow strict to bring in discipline among students. The way student deviate from anything should not be encouraged at such level.

Compared to a year ago, It is a better place. I believe. I really believe my Batchmates will even have to start Introspection before entirely shifting the blaim.
