My personal opinion is that this one was a lot stronger and suitable for the occasion compared to the official SJA version, though it clearly mentions that it is complementary to the SJA version and not in derogation of it. The fact that several faculty and staff signed it too (surprise, surprise, neither the VC nor the faculty in cahoots with the VC did sign) makes it even stronger. The SJA one only had student signatories.

I’m not changing sex. Sex cannot be changed by what I or you or Imane Khelif thinks. Sex is material biological reality. Do you produce large gametes or small gametes - are you male or female. Even people with DSDs and in fertile people - their bodies were on that pathway to produce either large or small gametes. It was interrupted at some point because of health problems - but it was still on that pathway.

Wow the mindpretzel. If being transgender isn’t a bad thing why would it be shameful and bring dishonour ? Lady Gaga was asked about her sex several times as a young musician and she actually stood up for the lgbtq community when she said - so what if I am ? Khelif has done literally the opposite and said it’s shameful to be transgender and you’re defending it ? Why ?

It's obvious that the number of lawyers protesting will be large, because the TMC is probably the only party in India simultaneously opposed by the BJP, CPI(M) and INC. The last two are in alliance with the TMC at the centre, but not at the state level. So you basically have the right and left sections of the High Court Bar uniting, hence obviously a large crowd (NOTE: TMC is neither right nor left, they have no ideology).

Throughout India, lawyers protests are generally associated with ruffian-type lawyers representing political parties. Senior Advocates, even if politically aligned, stay away. But we are now witnessing an incredible scene where top Senior Advocates and barristers of the Calcutta High Court are marching on the streets, outside the High Court. Perhaps the only lawyers not marching today are those who are members of the TMC and the state government standing counsels. Every other HC lawyer —- young, old, elite, non-elite, apolitical, pro-Left, pro-BJP, pro-Congress —- seems to be marching on the streets!

This video shows the huge size of the protest: thousands and thousands of black robes marching. I don’t think we have ever seen such a lawyers protest in India, let alone in the 150+ years of the Calcutta High Court. I’m not sure we even saw such protests during British rule, given that most of the lawyers at the Cal HC were then British.

Which models are these ? Please explain ? Sudhir isn’t doing anything at nls that the best universities around the world haven’t done with success. It’s surprisingly not a novel idea to improve academic rigor among students and faculty.

How do you suppose we get evidence without making changes ? It’s like you want the doctor to prove you have a disease and give you medication without letting him test or examine you.

What you’re proposing is - we do nothing to make nls better because we cannot predict long term effects. That’s silly - that will stop innovation and lead to stagnation. If you stop growing in this economy - you will get left behind.

The argument is that you have got no evidence of the fact that Sudhir's model produces better lawyers. Until you do, demanding that people put blind faith in it is not only a bad argument, but fanaticism. Especially because other models have produced all the good scholars and practitioners all across the country in the past two decades and more.

I’d argue that apart from 1 or 2 bands, CAM has some huge rainmakers. Don’t let their lala status overshadow their notable Mumbai practices such as Disputes, M&A, PE. Apart from NKU, AK is probably one of the largest comp rainmakers as well (Yes I know about the team, I’m only talking about their billings)

AZB is becoming as much of a lala firm as CAM. They don’t mass hire because lateral hirings are practically nil (I’ve seen more SAs leave AZB instead) while they maintain a steady intake through Zero Day placements unlike CAM, SAM and Tri who have reportedly not offered any slots at all this year round across several universities

You can go ahead and report this issue to the Dean. Most of the students are very very supportive of juniors, might be a few uncanny students who try on keeping their mock-up image as they are self obsessed.

You can go on and try to Interact with the final year seniors especially former position holders who can guide you for the rest of your student life better than those rip-offs.

Taking drop is not a great idea per se. But, if at all the environment does not suppirt then you het a cause to take a drop. But, it is hardly a month to judge an environment which is unfair judgement. If the faculties are great and don't consider the option of dropping. Frankly, no law school will provide with this environment. You need to strive yourself.

I recently started my job as an A0 and I'm being asked to work today as well. I know work-life balance doesn't exist in firms. I was working on 15th august as well and on Saturday too. I know there's no way out of this. I know I need to push through. I just feel upset and constantly anxious that I'll receive another e-mail. I'm just ranting. I know I have to suck it up

UP is the state. The state domicile including the general crowd is 60-70% from UP. Not blaming the people but culturally your horizons aren't broad and you start living in a cocoon of like minded individuals who do not want to work hard. Collectively this is how institutions sort of falter. Groups of students all similar but complacent in their work.

I have come across a good bunch of crazy smart people from RMLNLU during my internships. So what's the scene with their low placement scenario? And that too when in recent times, a good chunk is actually inclined towards high paying corporate jobs? Please give honest answers without unnecessarily badmouthing any college.

Well, not quite... It still matters if you get into a Jindal or Symbi as opposed to a private law college which is a part of a local private educational group in a random town or district. The same story as in engineering or medicine - a good private engineering or medical college is leaps and bounds ahead of the multitude of bad ones spread across the country.

Also, I dare say, getting into a Jindal or Symbi is, at least at the moment, better than getting into a newer or lesser known "NLU".

I know two people from elite schools in Kolkata who went to Symbi. One got a TC without an LLM and another is working in-house abroad, also without an LLM.

So the lesson is that your contacts, communication skills and grooming can outweigh the repute of your university.

Yes, very much so. In terms of what it does for you as a law student, it is easily amongst the top law colleges in the country.

(Source: I am an alumni of this college and have a fair idea of how my some of my batchmates, seniors and juniors are doing. All top law firms across the country have equity partners from Symbi (Pune) and there are many other notable lawyers elsewhere, too. People are doing very well in the disputes area as well. )

Symbi (Pune), in my view, is somewhat like a foreign LL.M. -- it is exactly what you make of it. If you apply yourself, go the extra mile and perhaps be more of an initiative-taker across all the semesters, you will get an education that is quite good (in terms of the national legal education standards). The college has decent faculty and good infrastructure (library, etc.), which provide a pretty good platform for a sincere student. It also has groups which can be called the right crowd (good company really matters for young people who have just left their parents' homes), so if one wants he or she can make the right kind of friends, too.

The main drawback of this college is that it is not located in a major legal hub (Pune cannot match a Delhi NCR or Mumbai in opportunities / avenues for gaining exposure). The formal alumni network is also relatively weaker (to put it politely) but that also means that most people are keen to help a junior or an intern.

This is such a joke. I took the LNAT in 2020 and converted all my applications (including LSE, KCL and Bristol). I couldn't go because of COVID. I just provided these details because the name dropping was necessary. Trust me when I say LNAT is not a very difficult test. It's only English comprehension and logical reasoning. And there is no rank list which is released. UK universities look at the whole application (consisting of grades, LOR and Personal Statement). There is no particular threshold of an LNAT score which will guarantee admission into a top UK uni. This move by JGLS is a purely marketing event to help claim itself comparable to UK universities. I don't really think it's going to make the admission process in JGLS more difficult, and it's a bad move on their end too- they make the most money from people who are not eligible for scholarships i.e. people with bad entrance scores.

In cet GLC is your best bet for both litigation and corporate. Don't take the risk by going to fc or ILS. Non t1 t2 nlu colleges are already at a disadvantage when t comes to hiring, you're really making it harder for you to get placed and shooting yourself in the foot if its neither a good college nor work ex is there.
