But how does the brand of the phd supervise matter when you don't even get to choose your phd supervisor?? Majority NLUs don't allow you to choose and they are chosen for you. I have many batchmates and seniors doing their PhDs in both NLUs and central universities, and none of them got to choose their PhD advisors. They were just forced upon them, hence getting shitty advisors. In this case, doesn't the brand of the universities and the publication record matter more ??

Join any university and complete your phd. The success ratio for a PhD is less than 50%. So they're not a lot of people who actually go on to complete their PhD. They usually pivot. So if you have a PhD you have a better chance. Don't worry about age, especially if you have publications and a PhD.

Apply at your old schools. Like wherever you did your grad or postgrad from. They would definitely let you in. And after 3-5 years you may switch after building a good CV. Academia doesn't care about internship and work experience. It's more about connections and research publications. Work on that.

Why would it be a downgrade? NLUs themselves are state universities. Just because they have a "national" tag doesn't mean they are. A downgrade would be if you went from a central university like JNU, IITkgp, DU, BHU to a state university. Even certain private universities like Jindal and symbiosis are better than tier 3 NLUs.

My cousin sister did a BA from UCL and then studied law at KCL. I was once visiting London and she showed me around her law school. While we were chatting, a gentleman entered campus on a bicycle and waved at her. She said it was a Lord Justice who was a visiting prof. Later, we went to the cafeteria and I saw the same gentleman standing in line for coffee with the other students, like a regular person.

Courtroom decorum, originating from practices during the british era and for security reasons don't permitpeople to drink water inside courtroom. Now, does it not happen in british or american courts? We routinely see them drinking water even when arguing. So what about the british era practice? That the courtroom is like a temple and one ought not drink water. Security? I guess thats the primary concern. Barring maybe 2-3 court complexes in the country, every other court complex has such minimal security, one would be appalled. As such, bottle can contain anything, and can be thrown at the judge. That i believe is the reason. But again, if it can be done in britain, then why not india?

Craig didn't teach him how to run an institution. Nor did his BCL curriculum have a paper on that.

It's okay. No NLUD batch has had a better placement than any NUJS batch ever, but you keep dreaming otherwise. Not that NUJS is much good, almost all NLUs are plummeting down hard and fast. Academically, only NLSIU is worth going to these days, but their infra and placement scenes are bad too.

This incesstant CT obsession with ranks both batch or clat, and how people who have the higher ones pick abc colleges and xyz firms and therefore this hierarchical selection makes the latter the best choice; the notion that anyone who does not follow the same route wasn't competent enough to be giving gyan on LI in the first place... is deeply rooted not just in classism but borderline casteism - clat ranks and accessibility is a much larger off topic discussion.

Sometimes people don't want tags they just wish to have a wholesome college life with the same opportunities, decent academics and placements which colleges like NUJS NLUJ and GNLU amongst many others offer. NLS is not doing better in terms of corp placements and has not been able to break NUJS' record which was evident after bo26' numbers - employability here being a very fair and reasonable metric to judge the "quality of their graduates." Coming to litigation, GLC/CLC and other traditional law colleges have a far better alumni support system to boast off compared to all NLUs combined. I'm not even dealing with NLUD because they are just starting out and don't have comparable stats or placement records to evaluate them with NLS Nalsar NUJS etc. So please come down from your high horse, you're not superior to anyone.

I don't really get why people complain about the trimester system. I understand that it is overwhelming at the beginning but most people, including I, get used to it within a trimester or two. Hell, if you can manage your time well (just doing the readings on time and making some rudimentary notes during/before class) then NLS is fairly chill. Of course, this is coming from a position of privilege as not every first year student is proficient enough at English to deal with the complicated texts which are thrown their way. I would concede that perhaps the trimester system is not manageable for such people but even then the proper solution is not to scrap the trimester system but to instead ensure that proper assistance is available to them (through initiatives like the Writing Centre).

At the risk of inching dangerously close to an ad hominem, I would also like to point out that the people who usually complain about the trimester system are also those who don't do any readings or pay attention in class and study just a day or two before exams. If a person can get a degree at NLS just by doing this, then it is rather unfair to malign the trimester system as being too rigourous. You can't point to the continuous eval system for contributing to rigour either since most people are able to scrape by with at least a B/B+ even if they have submitted crappy AI-written papers.

No, please avoid. They don't have the minimum number of regular faculty for the programme. They desperately request people from outside to come and take classes to finish the syllabus for almost every paper. No decent library, no campus life, no placement opportunities except through individual initiative.

An Indian llm will help you crack academia. And research and policy places. It might help you go on to a phd abroad. For a lot of people - that’s what they want in life.

A foreign llm - if it’s at the right place will actually help you get jobs. Whether that’s jobs in the foreign country or jobs in India. Since I got foreign llm from top uni. I haven’t interviewed for any of the jobs I’ve held. Just an interview for formality.

Also people chase status. Graduating from Harvard or Yale and having that on your cv means something.

And lastly - some people just want to keep learning and thinking about the law. They enjoy it.

Hello all! I am an enrolled advocate with the state bar council of MP and I have also cleared my AIBE and have received the COP. Now I want to get my identity card from the bar. Can someone please tell me whether I can get the ID card delivered to my home address if I apply for the same by applying through the application form along with DD posted to State Bar or will I have to go and collect it physically from the Bar office?

Try and get a job in a reputed T2 firm that hires through intentships. Use any contacts you can. Once you have a year of work experience, you can easily move to T1. A lot of T1 folks have average GPAs (including myself). Chill out, and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Just work upwards.

I am a 2027 batch law student and have received a call-back internship opportunity from a Tier 1 law firm. However, from internal sources, there are currently no vacancies in the particular team, making a PPO conversion unlikely.

In such a situation, would you still recommend undertaking the call-back internship purely for the experience, exposure, networking opportunities, and to strengthen future lateral prospects? Or would it be more prudent to focus efforts elsewhere, given the impossibility of conversion?

Buddy improve your comprehension if you want to succeed in the legal field. It's clearly written "northeast population" that means people who are from the northeast but unfortunately do not have opportunities to teach on northeast universities and are instead teaching in NUJS, NLUJAA or NLUO. NLU tripura and meghalaya have failed to attract northeast NLU faculty.

Connections, networking and a decent publication record. That's it. But majority focus is on connections. I know two unemployed fellows in their 40s who got into an NLU only based on their LLMs. They don't have a PhD or even a NET. They were preparing for judiciary and that's why didn't take up a job even at 40. Yet they had connections and got this job. Whereas they're people even with a PhD who aren't considered.

Costs are not only a unitary financial factor in litigation. They also create a bad impression in the judge's mind. It's not only about the money. As pointed out by everyone here, please go talk to your partner, but got with a solution. It'll all be fine.
