Global north it is. The sudden increase in political instability in the South east Asian region especially in regions like Manipur, Bangladesh and Myanmar is not a coincidence.

If you think about it, the political unrest is not scattered. It is generally located in places near/bordering China, and usually there have been communities [both large (Kukis) and small (Bangladesh Christians)] parts of it.

Also India's silence with such events also seems eary.

Now comes the speculation part. China has become a very explicit competitor of the global north (USA and Europe) in the past 2 decades. The weirdly coincidental events of 'The Resolve Tibet Act' of US, Bangladesh protests and political unrest in Myanmar are what I think the action of the northern deep state. What the west would want to achieve is to either weaken China (due to its communist nature and it being a competitor of the west and getting closer with Russia) and/or to establish a base in south east Asian.

Here is what I think what would happen -

1) political instability grows in manipur and Bangladesh and surrounding regions, which eventually leads to the demand of a christian majority country/communality by taking parts of Burma and Bangladesh. This would help establish the west in south east asia.

2) the west continues pushing its anti-china agenda, which either leads to a full wagered war (in the distant future) or leads to internal collapse of China.

A counter question one should ask is, why did the west not apply the same strategy it did years ago of waging war between China and India? There are two reasons for it 1) Christianity and Abrahamic religions in generally are sustained by political power unlike asian religions (Hinduism, Buddhism..) which are simply a way of life and hence lack aggression. Islam is out of question because it has generally been anti-west.

2) India has regulated the NGO donations via FCRA, 2010, which was one of the primary source of bringing politically motivated foreign contribution. Therefore there has been in general terms a certain calmness here for the past decade here.

Stop funding the East India Company. LLM is stupid and to fund a UK University, when they will primarily use your money to improve their LLB rankings, and when that degree entitles to you to practically nothing there, is not wise.

If Indian universities do not attract you, look a little closer. Think of NUS. Think of other European countries, which are more in need of human resource, and therefore have more sustainable prgrams.

Heavy words for desperation in a sinking ship. Anybody who claims to be in upper echelons of law firm management in the country knows that the firm is going through a tough time. That is not to say that the firm will disintegrate or die down (like an Indus or Luthra) but it is definitely facing transition now. Their strength was always home grown talent and the rigorous training they underwent but now that has eroded with new people at all levels. It will be interesting to see if S&R can now pivot with their new strategy and if they can manage to retain their ethos which made it a darling of foreign clients in the mid 2010s.

Recently I received a job offer from a boutique law firm in Mumbai. It isn't one of the reputed law firms but the pay is decent. During my interview, I was told that I will have to work in Litigation, Property Law and Corporate Advisory considering that the firm is relatively small. My interest lies in Corporate Advisory and I do not want to make my CV diverse. Is it a bad idea to take up that job? I don't want this to affect my chances of getting a better job in the future. As someone who has criticized the constant PR of GNLU on this site, many might be surprised to hear me say this, but go with GNLU. It is a law school which has shown immense potential, though some of its students do more to undermine that reputation than to enhance it, by behaving immaturely on here. However, please don't take that as a discouraging sign. GNLU is a good law school, and except, perhaps, for the location, if you've got in, there is no reason why you shouldn't stay in my view.

I don’t think training law school grads is a bad idea. Definitely should be encouraged if it bridges the knowledge gap.

But that doesn’t solve the problem- the real problem is time management, working under pressure, working in toxic teams, getting very less direction or feedback about your deliverable. These are the reasons why people can’t perform or they quit.

Sure we can talk about - transitioning from intern mentality to associate level mentality, but tbh, lot of the things are picked up only after you have started working and know how transactions are done. So no point bashing kids who are just out of college, that they can’t grasp certain things.

Recently graduated from CLC last week jobless. Actually forget jobs I'm still being rejected assessment internships from T3 firms even now. Seriously confused as to what to do next. I'm resigned to the fact that working at a T1 firm will remain a pipedream but now it feels it is impossible to sustain a career in law altogether. Very confused as to what to do now? What is the way into Tier 1 Law firm when you study in your state law college. Considering that it has average curriculum, no moot court society, no workshops, no activities, no research resources, no internship committee (no internship breaks expect January), non-availability of teaching faculty etc. The state law college is situated in upper most northern part of India.

Worked with him on some matters. Find him very elegant and perfectionist in his approach. Usually a lot of people get away with half baked research and cutting corners but he asked us to pull out some academic paper from many years ago on a technical point. Was amazed that he remembered such a minute detail from a piece he read such a long time ago. Obviously it can get frustrating for most people who just want to get the job done. Learnt a lot across those few days from him. He was very polite but of course we worked at all odd hours. I just think he approaches work very differently than most litigators in the field. And that leads to a lot of adjustment issues for people in his team.

Hey can someone please tell how likely is AZB to give out PPOs for its M&A team? I have noticed people having entirely opposite opinions - while some say that it's highly likely to get an offer from there and that even there is no formal PPO interview as such, while on the other hand there are folks who insist that AZB Blr office really doesn't hand out PPOs. I would be really grateful for any insights on how many interns they take and how the PPO scene would be for the Batch of 2026.

Additionally, I have heard that AZB doesn't truly have a team structure. So, in terms of PPOs and hiring, can someone please tell me which Partners interns should seek work from more to increase their likelihood of securing PPOs?

Oh boy where do I start. My law firm wasn’t even high paying,I got paid some 50-60k per month. Despite that it was trash and shit toxic. Extreme and blatant favouritism. Some seniors randomly started obsessing over an ‘intern’ there, yes, an intern. The intern was ranked over me, an associate even though I was working for 10+ hours on a daily basis. My work was never reviewed, I would be taken off cases from the middle of their course or be yelled at or ignored. I left it one day in sheer frustration and nobody bothered to discuss it with me or stop me. Nothing. Note, I was also paying off my educational loan from my 45k per month (40k in hand) salary. I joined this other firm (salary: 65k per month, no Diwali bonus) soon after because of the need to pay off my loan. Even tho I had switched my job, I was still mentally suffering from it to the point that I developed excruciating headaches. I went to a doc who gave me the wrong meds. I was on leave for just 4 days. When I returned, the attitude of the partners had just completely changed. Honestly, I didn’t have it in me to keep going with the bullshit so I just walked out. I would narrate my office #3 story but I’m not in the mood rn. As of now, I am on my bed, unemployed and I cry most of the time. Tears keep rolling down my eyes and I don’t even realise.
