I feel this is generalized and isn't fair. A lot of things don't fit in well at times - t2 and t3 firms know that the top college candidates may not want to join them ultimately, the firms genuinely don't have internship slots or the firm isn't looking to hire for that particular batch, or the firm is on retreat/ too many holiday breaks during that period. May not always be a bad thing :)

The hype is around where you start from. When you compare the partner with business owners of T2 or T3 city, firstly, it should also be taken into consideration how it is started from scratch by a certain person and with more effort than what a Partner may put into its work. Secondly, you are comparing a 10PQE partner to a business owner who on average has owned and run it for the last 15-20 years to make it to that level. On the same aspect, if you see a senior partner who roughly has about the same experience, the senior partner for a T1 may make upwards of 3 Cr. annually. No wonder any day owning and running a business that is capable of making super profits as in your case is more lucrative but it comes with the cost of gathering courage and confidence in yourself and your product/service.

As partner you talk with CEOs, CFOs, big industry leaders, get invited to exclusive meetings and restaurants, hangout at expensive spots and feel like top of the world while earning 1/100th of a CEO salary.

At work, you have people who will fight (extremely hungry/ ambitious) to work for you or serve you. Ultimately, everyone stays because of their self image and how it makes them feel.

All the major law firms have accepted their applications for Day 0, for the most part. There's no lack of willingness to consider people. Whether they get selected or not is a matter of individual competence. If you get good grades and do cool things, you'll get. Else, you won't.

An LLB student single-handedly reached the semifinals of an international moot after the rest of the team couldn't make it. An LLB team won an international negotiation competition recently. The person with the highest marks in the Moot Oral Rounds this year is, you guessed it, an LLB student in the year with the most number of participants literally ever.

In Britain at least (or at some law schools there), they do manage to recruit faculty with tenior to look into graduate outcomes. I know that one of those places (can't remember whether it's King's or QMUL) has this sort of department within their law school called the 'Hub For Professional Practice' or something. Apparently, in their LLB system, some selected students have an option to do a four year, instead of a three year, LLB, with the third year spent interning at a firm with which the uni has a tie-up (a sort of institutionalised, one-year-long version for some people of what everyone does at GLC without any college support); such things wouldn't happen without significant faculty interest.

The only sensible response to an utterly nonsensical (and frankly irresponsible) suggestion. Whoever wrote the comment about NLUs '[putting] their foot down' has no idea how to read a room - they should really open their ears. A lot of the talk in the UK RN has been about reducing immigration levels (both legal and illegal). You can do armchair rants all you like, but those won't get you anywhere; as Ron says to Neville in The Deathly Hallows, 'There's a time and a place for a smart mouth', and the UK environment in its current form is most certainly not it.

Frankly, if I were an MC firm partner reading this thread and I saw this nonsense about 'putting foot down' especially from non-UK unis, unless I really had a need for Indian talent, I'd go back to my firm and put through policy changes that meant my firm wouldn't sponsor visas for Indian law students' vac schemes (this would, ironically, in a way give me browny points with the UK government in my hypothetical scenario, as a key line of attack used by Sir Keir Starmer is that 'bad bosses' rely on immigration to import low-cost foreign labour, so I'd be able to convince a government whose instinct is to be suspicious of entities like mine that I am not a 'bad boss'!), so please be careful what you wish for.

I think you can make it on merit, if you speak and dress a certain way - one which is associates with elites and children of theirs. Pretending is bad but you gotta become a part of the crowd right. Will it be worth it- financially yes. But figure out do your parents take care of their own when you work abroad for life, do you have enough family support to sustain for the period you are out. All these questions. Again it will be very difficult even if you are from a T1. The vac schemes have lobbies too if you are yet to enter law school. Knowledge is often not passed onto as equally as it should be. Groups and lobbies you are a part of also operate in your applications and preparation. So all the best but you are flowing against the wind. But hey even a T1 job is not the worst.

One drop is okay, ask him to prepare CLAT from his law college. The first year is not that hectic. While age is no bar, continually striving for a T1 while you don't get it is pointless - you can get good career outcomes.

As for the T3 NLUs like NLUJAA or HPNLU, I am sorry to say, but fuck no. Local Mumbai law colleges/GLC/ILS/JGLS/Symbi/NIRMA/NMIMS are okay. Even IP I've heard is decent.

From the '24 batch, concluded law school a month ago. Interned in April, got my Callback for September'24; sure as hell to put in good work there. However, I'm willing to maximise my chances and request some guidance w.r.t. work/logistics and the people. Who do I speak to about my willingness to work for long-term there and when would be an ideal time to do the same?

Judicial vacancies are highly unpredictable; some years may have 5-6 opportunities, while others may have hardly any. Similarly, the eligibility criteria for these vacancies are changing dynamically. For example, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh have introduced a requirement of three years of mandatory practice (or 70% marks in the case of MP) to be eligible for the judicial services. Other states, like Uttar Pradesh, are actively considering introducing similar experience requirements in the coming days. Given that you are 27 and will be 30 by the time you pass LLB, and considering that the maximum age to appear for most judicial services exams is 32-35, it would be a risky maneuver to solely prepare for these exams at this stage.

Therefore, my recommendation is to not only target Judicial Services but also APO exams. This way, you can still appear for Higher Judicial Services in the future in case you do not clear the Civil Judge exam at this stage.

Just saw a post from NLSIU 2025 BA LLB Recruitment Committee on Linkedin announcing that 34+ students have received PPOs already. And they have listed HSF, A&O, CAM, SAM, AZB etc as recruiting firms. How true is this? Also, what's the scene with Day Zero? When is the Day Zero? And how many students are sitting on Day Zero? What firms are going to participate in Day Zero?

Also, can anyone shed some light on the placement scene for 3 yr LLB batch which is also graduating in 2025? Are 3 yr LLB students also sitting for Day Zero with 5 yr LLB students? Honest answers would really help in making college preference choices.

That is not an appropriate comparison as most top law colleges in India are relatively new, so only the very oldest batches of these would be of an age to be appellate court judge; though I believe Delhi HC has a few judges from CLC and a lot of higher district judicial officers. Moreover, most NLU grads don't have much interest or motivation to entire judicial services- which is quite unfortunate.
