Luthra & Luthra has advised Tata Global Beverages on its joint venture with US coffee chain giant Starbucks Corp, which drafted in Amarchand Mangaldas.

Luthra & Luthra fielded a team consisting of managing partner Rajiv Luthra, partners Deepak THM, senior associates Vaibhav Kakkar, and associate Aditya Periwal and Sanjana Chindalia, as well as IP practice co-head and partner Gayatri Roy with senior associate Nirupam Lodha.

It is understood that Herbert Smith also assisted Tata on foreign law issues.

Tata’s deal team was headed up in-house by Tata Sons general counsel Bharat Vasani.

Amarchand Mangaldas partner Pallavi Shroff and senior associate Natashaa Shroff acted for Starbucks on foreign direct investment (FDI) issues and the joint venture agreement.

The two companies will create a 50:50 joint venture Tata Starbucks, with 30 to 50 outlets to be launched in India this year, branded as “Starbucks Coffee – A Tata Alliance”, reported Mint.

Tata Coffee and Starbucks first entered into an agreement to supply coffee beans in 2004.
