Research by UK-headquartered international firm Eversheds, after interviewing 1,800 young lawyers to shed light on the ‘future leaders’ of the legal profession, revealed that female lawyers earned on average 30 per cent more than their male counterparts when aged 25 or younger, but earned 11% less on average when older, increasing to a 25% pay gap compared to men in their mid-30s. That is extremely depressing news for the female lawyer fraternity. Although, seeing how even that 11% lesser in England is way higher than what Indian Law Firms pay on average to their employees. I really think Indian Law firm Lawyers are severely underpaid!

women don't negotiate their salaries as well and spend more time gossiping about their friends than building strong networks. this is 1% of the reason, but it is a reason. even "leaning in" the book suggests women sub-consciously slow down anticipating a demanding boyfriend, a husband, a baby. can't expect all of this to not affect $.

In the UK Magic Circle one can expect to be partner at 32-35 if exceptional...
What is the case for Indian firms of equivalent caliber like say Amarchand or AZB? Is it a meritocracy there? And is the criteria same for all departments like - Corp., M&A, Dispute Resolution, Tax, Real Estate, Shipping etc.? Please let me know.

I say this research is meaningless. Does the research prove that they're earning less because they're women? No. Plus, i'd like to highlight that this appears to be the average which means there are women earning equal and more than men. What's the point of stirring such a needless debate. Had the study been able to conclude that sex was the issue, sure. No problems.

This and the senior counsel nonsense and the partnership bit. The media makes it a sex thing whereas I don't think most partners care.

Have salaries at the top firms changed at all in the last year or two? I was under the impression they have mostly been frozen?

Anyone know if any of these are not accurate anymore?

This was what they were paying till last year. I am not sure if they have revised it further. Would request you to check this figures if you can:

1) azb is paying around 1.10 Lakh per month + Bonus

2) Khiatan - 1 lakh per month + Bonus

3) Luthra - 86k per month + Bonus

4) Amss - 86k per month + bonus

5) JSA - 90k per month + bonus

6) trilegal - 1 lakh per month + bonus
