Nayantara Nag and Ramakant Rai make Trilegal’s partnership via internal promo

Trilegal has voted to admit into its all-equity partnership counsel Ramakant Rai in its corporate practice and Nayantara Nag in the projects practice, effective 1 October.

Nag is a 2008 Delhi University graduate and focuses primarily on water and waste management, roads, renewable energy (wind and solar), smart cities, oil and gas and affordable housing.

Co-founding partner and head of Trilegal’s projects practice Akshay Jaitly commented about Nag in a press release: “She started her career with the firm and over the course of her career has developed into an excellent lawyer with exceptional work ethic, technical skills and commitment to client service. Nayantara will be a welcome addition to the projects practice where her special focus on public infrastructure projects will add significantly to our overall client service offering.”

Rai, a 2007 NLIU Bhopal graduate, specialises in strategic M&A, corporate commercial work and insolvency, with corporate partner Yogesh Singh commenting: “Ramakant is an outstanding lawyer and a solid addition to our corporate team. He will bolster our presence in the National Capital Region.”

Corporate partner Charandeep Kaur added that Rai had “worked on many of the firm’s top transactions” and would be “an asset to the firm as we look to grow our corporate footprint”.

Indeed, over the past few years we had reported on Rai’s involvement (with Kaur as the lead partner) on a number of deals, such as for Hitachi Metals, for Tata Power, Canadian company JSS Medical Research as well as the underwriters on the IPO of controversial tablet maker Datawind in Canada.

Rai had joined Trilegal in Delhi 2010 from Juriscorp in Mumbai. Ramakant worked with Juriscorp in Mumbai before he joined Trilegal in 2010 and has been with the firm since. He has worked on a number of transactions across a range of practice areas including telecom, financial services and manufacturing.

The two promotees increase Trilegal’s total partnership to 41, after Kannan Rahul having joined in August from J Sagar Associates (JSA) and Nisha Kaur Uberoi in May from AZB & Partners.

As we reported yesterday, Shardul Amarchand has promoted 11 to non-equity partner to reach a total headcount of 102 equity and non-equity partners.

First, they are not both guys! Second, they are both top talent and are the future stars of their practice areas who have been working for marquee clients. Check their deal records.

Nayantara is a huge asset to Trilegal and its project practice. Having her in the partner bandwagon will take their practices to soaring heights. All the best!

Trilegal's project practice has hardly grown over the years..no wonder it has only 3 partners now (including Nayantara) and no big names to reckon!

I do indeed mean straight. Reached the character limit. But you're obviously very clever, you understood nevertheless. Shabaash.

Saurabh is very much a projects/project finance partner. What did you think he had become?

So, Saurabh does both projects and project finance..Is Trilegal not doing enough of Project Finance through Delhi or Saurabh hardly does projects... vicious circle.. huh?

Trilegal's partnership model is flawed and they will keep losing people. When you don't expand your business enough, and there are counsels waiting in the pipeline, there is no way you can make new partners without each current partner losing a chunk of money. Time for Trilegal to wake up and smell the coffee

Anuja should become Partner at Trilegal. I have worked with her on various occasions and she is brilliant at her work with great legal acumen and work ethics. I think she and Nayantara are batch mates. So, not sure why she didn't make it this time. Anyway, if she doesn't make it in Trilegal, I am sure other law firms will certainly take her.
