Sawhney heads to Essar UK to head up group legal

Former Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (LKS) London partner Sumesh Sawhney has joined Essar Group in London as its general counsel this month, according to his Linked-in profile.

Though an Indian company, Essar has been highly active making and managing acquisitions globally in the natural resources space.

Sawhney is a 1992 Punjab University graduate, who had been partner at erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas and Clifford Chance’s India group in London, and Jones Day before joining LKS in 2016.

As we had first reported in March, LKS had closed its London office and Sawhney had left around 1 March, after Brexit had proved more of a problem than anticipated in UK-India work.

We have reached out to him for comment.

Mr. Sawhney really deserves this position. Apart from having huge knowledge in the legal field, he is also a kind and a good human being. I must say that he really deserves this position.

Punjab is spelt as "PANJAB" when you write the name of the university located at Chandigarh. When you spell "Punjab University", you are actually referring to the university located at Lahore, Pakistan.

LKS London Office shutdown plan was imminent - was already planned almost a year ago. And all this planning is also planned way in advance, my friend. It's the modus operandi industry :) Goodluck!
