Trilegal counsel Arpan Chowdhury has joined financial and investment advisory firm SSG Advisors as vice president legal this month.

He is the second person in SSG’s India legal team, with a focus on special situations and distressed asset related work. He will be working with Praveen Thomas (2002 batch Delhi University), who had joined in April 2017 as director and senior legal counsel from Deutsche Bank, where he was senior legal counsel.

An NUJS Kolkata 2010 alumnus, Chowdhury began his career with the erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas until 2015 and moved on to Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas after the split as principal associate in 2015 for two years before joining Trilegal as counsel.

SSG provides non-binding, non-discretionary investment advisory & financial advisory services to institutional / professional investors principally in special situation and distressed investments as well as private higher quality secured credit investments on a non-exclusive basis.

Chowdhury is based in Mumbai in his new role.

Because almost no Indian tier one firm treats its people like human beings and tries to preserve them as long-term assets instead of mere disposable commodity. That's the fact. Your opinion about this person is well-founded. Decent, hardworking person and pretty good in his job too.

Khaitan's work hours are just as bad as Trilegal's - speaking from experience.

Coincidentally, Arpan, Shaswata and Raghuvir, who have all gone inhouse recently, are all batchmates from NUJS.#conspiracy

This is great news. A great move not just for Arpan but also for SSG. With business becoming more complicated and sophisticated, strong internal legal teams will go a long way in building the institution. Arpan has a reputation of being a very smart and hardworking lawyer and a solution provider.

Kudos and all the very best. Both SSG and Arpan.
