Ola hails new group general counsel: Vedanta’s Nitin Banerjee joins sprawling tech-taxi empire

Former group general counsel (GC) of resources giant Vedanta Limited, Nitin Banerjee, has joined the Ola group, which is fast becoming a technology conglomerate, as its group GC.

We had reported his departure from Vedanta late last month.

He’ll no doubt be having his hands full at ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd: the group includes the original cab hailing and sharing aggregator Ola Fleet, and after a bevvy of acquisitions also Ola Mobility, Electric, Financial Services, food technology with Foodpanda and interests in several other sectors.

Banerjee is a 2001 Lucknow University grad and before joining Vedanta in 2017, had headed legal at Vodafone and British Gas and had been a partner at J Sagar Associates (JSA).

We have reached out to him and Ola for comment.

According to our deals database, Ola has been a regular client of Khaitan & Co, as well as J Sagar Associates (JSA).

From Vodafone and Vedanta to Ola....not sure which direction this move is. But anyways it's not like it makes a difference who the GC is, to an org. Important work will keep getting sent to firm's and juniors will keep "managing" or "legal managing".

Any idea of his salary (fixed, variable and options)?

Not sure but guessing close to 2 cr apart from options. Recently a M&A partner from SAM joined OYO but as a VP reporting to the GC so am sure GC would be making more than the VP.
