Khaitan & Co projects principal associate Rahul Arora and counsel Megha Arora will be joining HSA Advocates as partners, with Khaitan partner Amitabh Sharma to become the new HSA managing partner, as reported by Legally India on Tuesday.

Rahul Arora will join HSA as an associate partner in Delhi, while Megha Arora (no relation) will join HSA’s new Bangalore office as a retained partner.

Megha Arora is a 2005 NUJS Kolkata graduate who had joined Khaitan from J Sagar Associates (JSA) in 2011.

Rahul Arora is a 2008 Symbiosis graduate who had joined Khaitan from JSA in 2010.

Both were part of Sharma’s team, who had moved from JSA to Khaitan in 2010.

HSA current managing partner Hemant Sahai, who will hand over the designation to Sharma once he joins, commented that he was “very pleased and excited” to have both Megha and Rahul Arora on board: “[Megha] will spearhead our Bangalore office and initiatives while being part of the national partnership.

“Rahul manages some strategic client relationships that HSA too already shared, and therefore this consolidation of relationships will be significant.”

Khaitan HR head Amar Sinhji confirmed the departures and said: “We wish Amitabh all the very best in his new role.”

When asked about the remaining strength’s in the firm’s energy, infrastructure and resources (EIR) group, he said: “Khaitan has over the years built up a strong EIR practice, and EIR will continue to remain a practice on which we will focus and build.”

Khaitan had four other partners, other than Amitabh, in the EIR group nationally, he said.

We haven't said anywhere that there aren't any others - these are 2 who are joining as partners. Who is and who is not moving from full team still being confirmed, I think...

Well done Megha, you will fit right into the equity. I see significant similarities between you and a former HSA equity partner.

What about other loyalist APs in Amitabh's team? Weren't they offered equity in HSA? Wont actually, until they have a book/client relationship of their own!
