2007 NLS-grad Prem Mohan becomes Kirkland & Ellis London partner

Prem Mohan, who had graduated in 2007 from NLSIU Bangalore, has been promoted to partner in Kirkland & Ellis London office in the financial services regulatory practice.

He specialises in advising on UK and EU financial regulation, with a particular focus on the private equity investment fund industry.

He is part of a partnership promotion round of 81 at the US-international firm, which saw six promotion in London.

He had begun his career at Linklaters in 2008, moved to Covington & Burling in London in 2012, and joined Kirkland in 2014.

Kirkland and Ellis follows a practice whereby every Associate who completes a certain number of years, it used to be 5 years, now maybe more, is automatically designated Partner. It doesn't mean Equity.

I don't think it is trolling to say that Kirkland inflates designations, and this is fairly well known. 5 year post qualification experience lawyers often become "partners" in Kirkland, when elsewhere in the City they would be classed as senior or managing associates. This is what I suspect the prior poster meant. No ill will to Prem, but equally a press release that he has made Partner needs to be tempered with a note on what being made partner in Kirkland as a mid-level associate truly means. Not a whole lot.

that just means it is hard to survive 5 years in kl..he is way too young for equity anyway.

I assume that he has updated his designation to partner, so Linked-in is now showing partner for the entire tenure there. The only way to do it otherwise in Linked-in, I think, is if you create a new job with the same firm with partner designation, but most people don't seem to do that...
