2001 GLC Mumbai graduate and Clifford Chance London senior associate Amer Siddiqui has joined Simmons & Simmons as a partner in its capital markets team.

He had joined Clifford Chance in 2003, after an LLM at the George Washington University Law School from 2001 to 2002.

He specialises in securitisation and asset-backed finance transactions, in domestic and cross-border work, primarily for investment banks, corporate borrowers and bank and building society borrowers.

Simmons has more than 20 offices globally.

Well... but you did... :) As did I :)

To be fair, Siddiqui has been out of India for nearly 2 decades and is not active in Indian deals specifically, as far as I know...

Could be very much true although the minimum requirement at a shop like Simmons to make partner would be much less. Thinking out aloud - you would need to make about 3x your drawings. My guess would be that a Silver Circle recently made-up would be drawing about c. 250k so we are looking at 750k-ish projected book size. This is a great achievement not just for an Indian but in particular because the old days of seniors from MC being made up in SC are nearly gone. Kudos to the guy and hoping many more reach the P-suite soon.

Desi MC lawyer - well said! Indian or not - it's hard to make partner at top international law firms in London at the best of times and with brexit, trump etc it's even harder.

I was at GLC at the same time as Amer. He's a great guy! I knew he would do really well in life. He's done us proud...

Came across him on a deal recently. He's knowledgeable, articulate, measured and tenacious. I saw that he was able to find a path forward and get stuff done instead of unnecessarily trying to score points. Sadly, he was representing the other side on that deal but I'd love to have him on my side next time!
