Linklaters Singapore-based India partner Arun Balasubramanian is set to join Magic Circle rival Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Legally India has confirmed from two sources with knowledge of the move who declined to be named.
The news, which was first published by legal website Bar & Bench today, follows Talwar Thakore & Associates Mumbai-based banking partner Narayan Iyer returning to Linklaters head office in London after nearly four years in India.
Freshfields London-based India head Pratap Amin did not respond to an email seeking comment at the time of going to press.
A Linklaters spokesperson commented via email: “We thank Arun for his contribution to the firm and wish him all the best in his future career.”
Balasubramanian specialises in capital markets and corporate, having begun his career at Cravath Swaine & Moore in 1997 in New York, Hong Kong and London after graduating from Oxford in 1995.
He joined Linklaters London office in 2006 as a counsel and was promoted to partnership in 2007.

Arun has a credible M&A practice as well which he developed at cravath...he's a fantastic addition to Freshfields and will do very well indeed.

Who are the competitors:? Manoj Bhargava, Rahul Guptam and Raigv Gupta? These are sub-substantard lawyers ccmpared to Arun....
Of course, you all are free to express your views but it appears that you have no reasons on the basis of which you confer the "best lawyer" awards! Have you worked with most of the dual qualified Indian lawyers? Obviously not! On what basis do you compare lawyers engaged in different practices and/or based in different jurisdictions? Possibly, your imagination and hearsay.
That begs the question, who are you to give away "best lawyer" awards? ROFL.
Nandan is a good lawyer but does more non-India work - Kuashik isn't well regarded -
It is a matter of perspective regarding how good or bad a lawyer is.
perhaps an alternative career as a crystal ball reader in a gypsy camp may be more suited... unless you are an expert in numerous areas of law and numerous jurisdictions (sure, without qualifying!)
