SAM boosts Chennai with real estate partner Narayanan

Dua Associates Chennai partner Aarthi Lakshmi Narayanan has joined Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas as a partner focusing on real estate.

Narayanan had joined Chennai practice Rangarajan and Prabhakharan in 2002 after graduating from Dr Ambedkar Govt Law College Chennai and had moved to Dua Associates in 2004 where she became partner in 2010.

She has joined with three other fee-earners, bringing the total headcount of the office to five, including partner Anand Bhushan who joined from Cognizant Technology Solutions where he was general counsel for the APAC region.

We have reached out to Dua and Narayanan for comment.

SAM's growth appears steady though slow. In comparison CAM seems to have burned fingers with attempted fast growth, over energetic but under performing partners, confused strategy and chaotic management. Looks like the better man is winning!

Despite all the CAM lambasting and SAM cheering, I still can't digest what the mother-son duo did to the younger son.

It has nothing to do with how each brother runs his office, the attrition rates, rewarding of loyalty etc, but about the personality and cunning that drives them. To cheer the downfall of your own son/brother, quite frankly, is deplorable.

Great move by SAM. Now I guess SAM is the top firm in Chennai in corporate and real estate. Is that why Khaitan is still not opening in Chennai ?

Not sure if SAM automatically becomes top even before Aarthi's first day. Other firms are there which are lower profile but doing well. HSB is a top firm. Dua itself is good. JSA has a full office with the Vicahaar merger. Tatva has a small but good practice and there are players like poovayya, Samvad etc supported by Bangalore offices.n

Is Dua closing down? It had been a wonderful law firm in Delhi but do not hear of it quite often for last many years now! This is why asking.

Its good to hear that Tier - 1 firms have begun to concentrate on areas like Real Estate and IP. Many Tier - 1 firms like Trilegal, JSA, NDA etc. dont have a full-fledged Real Estate team so they can really be "full service" can they?
