Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has promoted Arjun Ghose, Shruti Kanodia, Nitesh Jain and Manjari Tyagi to partner.

Arjun Ghose is based in Delhi and had joined what-was-then Amarchand Mangaldas in 2008 from NLSIU Bangalore. He specialises in private equity, corporate and finance.

Nitesh Jain was promoted in the Mumbai and Delhi litigation team, having joined in December 2015 from Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas in Mumbai. He is a 2007 Symbiosis graduate, with a 2009-LLM from the London School of Economics (LSE). Jain had begun his career at Gagrat & Co in 2007, and had joined Amarchand Mangaldas in 2009 in Delhi.

Delhi-based Shruti Kanodia in corporate began her career at S&R Associates after graduating from NLSIU Bangalore in 2008, having moved to Amarchand in 2010.

Manjari Tyagi was a counsel at the firm, having joined in 2010 from AZB & Partners, where she had started her career in 2008 after graduating from NUJS Kolkata.

The new promotions take Shardul Amarchand’s partnership to 91, with a total of around 434 fee-earners, as reported in our comparison of Big 7 firm headcounts last week.

What kind of pay scales are we looking at for these recently promoted partners?

What about [...]? He is much older than these guys and more experienced. He also worked in [...]. Introduces himself as partner and is officially probably the only "Counsel" SAM has. Any [...] issues notwithstanding, he is technically better than these lawyers. Makes you wonder if it would have been better for someone like him to just join Amarchand right after law school.

Any idea why this partnership promotion round took place in mid-November?

Is it to make good the leaving of some senior partners at SAM?

What is the difference between Counsel and PA? Who all are counsels and who are PAs?

Manjari Tyagi was counsel and rest were PA. Arey Baba read article carefully nahi to phir dant parega!

I got that, Associate. My question was more of why is Manjari a Counsel while the others are PAs.

What is the difference between the 2 designations and why is one lawyer a Counsel while the other a PA?

Is there any difference is role/level/qualifications?

Earlier and in many Firms even now, counsels are those who don't have an Indian LLB. But Manjari is NUJS, so why is she a Counsel?

Because Manjari is a megastar. Others are rockstars.

Best firm in this market. Hands down. Lets people be and grow. No micro managing. Yes family owned and controlled but in a very nice civilized way. Take a bow Shardul. You do your mother and family proud. Wish there were more like you:)

It seems that slowly but steadily SAM is emerging as the winner to be at the apex of Tier 1. Good also to see at least one Amarchand being willing to shed it's family firm image and relinquish part reigns to capable individuals. Let's hope the other one takes heed and follows suit lest there be even more attrition.

Sorry, which one? Have looked through unpublished comments, and they have either been too personal by naming unrelated individuals and being rude about them or more generally unsuitable for publication...

Are these new partners salaried partners or equity? If they are salaried, then why do people call them partners? The question is general and not for these promotions.
