Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has hired 2005-ILS Pune graduate Parveet Singh Gandoak to the firm as a counsel in Singapore from Debevoise & Plimpton, where he had worked between 2011 and 2016 as an associate.

Gandoak began his career at Radio Mirchi from 2002 to 2004 as a radio jockey, then completed an LLM at Cornell Law School in 2006 and joined US law firm Dechert in New York, from where he joined Debevoise in 2011.

While at Debevoise, he had also been seconded to Khaitan & Co in 2014 for six months.

Gandoak is based in Singapore and “represents private equity sponsors and multinational corporations in a range of corporate transactions, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, minority and control investments, secondary transactions and capital market offerings”, according to Skaddens.

His regional focuses are India, China and Southeast Asia.

He is qualified as a lawyer in New York, India and Hong Kong.

Worked with him in the past. For a foreign lawyer, really someone who understands the Indian landscape very well. A great guy with an amazing ability to solve complex legal issues..

Skadden is a sweatshop....but good to see the firm coming out of Hong Kong and establish India focused practice in SG...all those Indian law graduates doing LLM in NUS...naya shikaar!

I've worked opposite this guy and have to say - he knows his stuff. Very deal savvy and practical and knew how to cut through the BS. Also, just really fun to work with... maybe because he was an RJ?!

Big loss for Debevoise and huge win for Skadden (Kian - its not "skadden(s)").

Thanks re Skadden/s but I think it's mostly a stylistic point. The short colloquial 'nickname' of a lot of US firms with long names can be the plural of the first name (like Weils, or Cadwaladers, or Wachtells, etc). But either is fine to use, as far as I'm aware...

I've worked with Parveet at Dechert previously, and think he's one of the better Indian lawyers I've come across. Deserves the bigger platform Skadden has to offer over Debevoise. Seems like a good fit. Wish him the best of luck!

Good move for both Skadden and Parveet. Deepens Skadden's India bench significantly and gives Parveet a firm more dedicated to India. Another potential winner? KCO's ties to Skadden just got a boost.

This is an amazing news heard in a long time in the sphere of law. A perfect blend of an international law firm and a international lawyer Parveet in a symbiotic relationship. I m sure they would be able to expand beyond bounds mutually. I have heard him speak on various occasions- in conferences and each one has left me mesmorised with his intelligence and negotiation skills. A hands on professional with know how of technical aspects of law as well as being a global citizen of the world.

If you were anything more than a first year associate, you would have known that counsels are the equivalent of salaried or associate partners. And if you had any friends, you would know that people get excited about their friends reaching major milestones.
