Trilegal has promoted three of its counsel lawyers in three offices to its all-equity partnership.

Delhi counsel Vaibhav Kothari, Mumbai counsel Kunaal Shah and Bangalore counsel Nikhil Narendran have been promoted to partnership.

Vaibhav Kothari is a member of the corporate and M&A and private equity team, who had joined with then-Amarchand Mangaldas’ Gurgaon office with artner Ravindra Bandhakavi in April 2015. He is a graduate of NLU Jodhpur.

Kunaal Shah is a member of the corporate team, who had joined from Talwar Thakore & Associates in 2013, which he had joined in 2007 from Desai & Diwanji where he began his career in 2006. His firm profile states:

His role has involved conducting due diligences, structuring investments, drafting, reviewing and negotiating transaction documents. Kunaal also advises on a wide range of general corporate matters.

Nikhil Narendran specialises in telecoms, media and technology (TMT) and is a 2007 graduate of Nuals Kochi, making him the first, or at least one of the first, partners at a big law firm from the Kerala-based national law school. (Clarification: He is at least the second partner from Nuals).

He had began his career at ARA Law, moving to Trilegal in 2008, where he was made counsel in April 2014. The firm’s website states:

Nikhil has significant of experience in advising telecom and technology companies on various regulatory issues such as spectrum management, resale, MPLS services, voice services, intermediary liability etc. Nikhil has significant of experience in advising telecom and technology companies on various regulatory issues such as spectrum management, resale, MPLS services, voice services, intermediary liability etc. Nikhil has also advised various private players on regulatory issues involved in investment in various sectors such as wind power, hydroelectric power, telecom sector and various manufacturing sectors.

Trilegal Bangalore co-founding partner Rahul Matthan confirmed the promotions and said that partner promotions at Trilegal were typically done out of the counsel ranks.

Khaitan & Co yesterday announced 12 new equity partner promotions and 8 associate partner elevations.

Correction: The original story had mis-stated one of the partners’ names. We regret the error.

Why the exclamation mark in the headline, although the story doesn't suggest anything exceptional or unexpected has happened?
