Weils promotes 2006-NLS-debt specialist Nitin Konchady to partner

Weil Gotshal & Manges associate Nitin Konchady, who is a 2006 graduate of NLSIU Bangalore, has been promoted to partner in the London banking department’s Europe-focused high yield debt practice area in a partnership promotion round of 13, according to the firm’s press release.

He specialises in high-yield debt offerings and leveraged and acquisition finance, with his firm profile stating:

He also has significant experience advising financial institutions, corporates and private equity sponsors on a wide variety of other capital market and corporate finance transactions and U.S. securities law matters, including initial public offerings, investment grade securities offerings, hybrid securities offerings (directly and through repackaging vehicles), European medium-term note programs and liability management transactions.

After an LLM at Georgetown between 2006 and 2007, Konchady began his career with a brief internship at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, followed by 7 years at Paul Weiss in London, leaving only in 2014 when he joined Weil Gotshal.

Well done, but let's be clear about something: it's the US LLM that got him there. And this is true for all IIT/IIM grads who reach the top AFTER getting a second US degree.

This is quite an achievement. WGM posted an annual revenue of USD 1.16 bn in 2015 which is more than the revenue of all Tier 1 Indian firms put together.

Moreover, he is a genuine partner whereas in India most Tier 1 firms are promoter driven or family owned (except may JSA or Trilegal) so the partnership promotion is essentially only to a highly paid senior associate.
