Argus Partners has promoted managing associate Nidhi Arya to partnership in its Kolkata office, as the firm’s fourth partner in the city.

Her elevation will take effect from 1 April.

The 2008 Symbiosis Pune graduate had joined the firm in 2013, after previously working at Rajani Associates and Gagrats & Co, with an LLM from King’s College London in 2009.

She specialises in general corporate and real estate, particularly on compliance relating to the Real Estate Regulatory Act (RERA) and related finance.

Argus had also moved into a larger office in Kolkata’s Camac Street in December 2018, where it has 15 fee-earners (7 in litigation, 6 in corporate and 2 in indirect tax).

It is one of only a few (if not the only) non-old-school Calcutta-headquartered firms that seems to be promoting or expanding in the city, where many other national firms have struggled.

Managing partner Krishnava Dutt commented: “Kolkata has performed [as] one of the best this year.”

Argus Partners now has a total of 18 partners, including tpmumbai;;9 in Mumbai, tpdelhi;;1 in Delhi, tpkolkata;;4 in Kolkata and tpbangalore;;4 in Bangalore, according to Dutt.

Partnership in most firms is a joke. Either people with a few years’ experience who’ve stayed on [...] in the bigger firms, or people moving from bigger firms to smaller firms. Whatever happened to experience??
