Exclusive: AZB & Partners Mumbai equity partner Yogesh Bhattarai has internally announced that he would leave the firm to go on a one-year sabbatical.
“We have been informed that the is is proceeding on a one year sabbatical,” confirmed AZB partner and CEO Abhijit Joshi.
According to a number of sources close to the firm, Bhattarai has announced that he would travel in India during his sabbatical. It is understood he is likely to leave the firm around the end of June but no definite return date to AZB has been agreed.
Bhattarai, who graduated from NLSIU Bangalore in 1997, has been with AZB since 2002. He was promoted to become AZB partner in 2006 and was made up into the equity partnership in 2009. He specialises in corporate and M&A.
He had joined AZB from Nishith Desai Associates in 2002, where he had worked for one year after five years with Wadia Ghandy in Mumbai.
Bhattarai declined to comment when contacted.

What is the purpose of a website dedicated to news on the legal community, if it isn't meant to report on the departure of an equity partner from one of the largest law firms? Hardly think LI's job is only to do case reports and discuss the joys of litigation.
Is this newsworthy?? What will you report next maternity and paternity absences? That said, perhaps LI should do a feature on non-salary benefits offered by firms (gym, subsidised cafe, maternity/paternity leaves, parent friendly schedules etc.). Let this be a start of an initiative to make legal profession in India one that cares about the health and well being of individual lawyers, their families and the society at large. If there are any takers then we could start a campaign for CSR and pro bono for Indian law firms. That may allow for viewing law as a profession and not just a job in an high-paying industry! If the US and UK are examples to go by, all this can be done without affecting PEP, salary etc.

Unless I have got it all wrong I think there is something does'nt match factually.
Assuming the person concerned joined Wadia after graduation ie, 1997, 5 years from that date would mean he joined NDA in 2002.
Calculations:
1997-1998-Year 1
1998-1999-Year 2
1999-2000-Year 3
2000-2001-Year 4
2001-2002-Year 5
Date of Departure from WGCO and joining NDA- 2002
Year of Departure from NDA and joining AZB a year later- 2003
Unless something is grossly wrong with the world how could he have joined AZB in 2003...the maths don't make sense.....KIAN kindly explain!

I was on the responsible journalism point.....unless this is something of a gossip column one could expect some sort of filtering and reviewing of information....but it seems ppl have totally diluted the point i tried making here.
