AZB & Partners Mumbai lateral partner and compliance and investigation practice head Ajay Upadhyay has moved to KPMG as a partner in its forensic practice, two years after having joined from E&Y.

He confirmed his joining, and commented: “I had a very fantastic time with the AZB team and gained immense learning experience with the firm, especially Zia.”

“All the senior partners of firm, be it Ajay B, Bahram, Ashwath Rau, Rajendra Barot, Darshika, Sai B, Ashwin, Nohid, Alka or Shameek, they all have been really supportive during my two and half year tenure,” he added. “The compliance and investigation practice at AZB continues to grow and the replacement has been identified to handle the ever-growing practice. I wish all the very best to the AZB team.”

The qualified chartered accountant and internal auditor holds a 2002 BCom from the University of Pune and had previously worked at KPMG from 2005 to 2010, and then joined E&Y climbing to director of fraud investigation and dispute services until moving to AZB in 2015.

AZB Mumbai managing partner Zia Mody commented: “Ajay has been instrumental in starting and settling our forensic practice. We are very sorry to see him go but wish him a hugely successful career forward.

“His successor is a senior who will join soon.”
