Four more partners join AZB Mumbai club

AZB & Partners Mumbai side has made its second batch of partnership promotions this year, lifting up another four.

One of the four, Sayak Maity, had left Tata Sons yesterday and has joined AZB today.

Maity had moved from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas in 2018 to Shuva Mandal’s team, which has shrunk by nearly 50% due to defections.

New partners (pictured above, l. to r.), effective 1 October:

  • Vipul Jain (Mumbai)
  • Jasmin Karkhanis (Mumbai University 2005; Mumbai)
  • Sayak Maity (NUJS Kolkata 2011; Mumbai)
  • Veena Gopalakrishnan (ILS Pune 2008; Bangalore)

The firm has also promoted Alpesh Parekh as counsel in Pune.

In April 2019, AZB had promoted 5 in Mumbai, 1 in Pune and 10 in Delhi to partnership.

Was'nt Sayak the right hand man of Shuva? Why would Shuva let him go? Zia would not have taken Sayak without Shuva's consent anyways.... all this is a little odd...

This is a defining moment in AZB's legacy. It is the demise of whatever we have seen the firm stand for all these many years.

Other places Partners are being promoted as Equity Partners at this time but here the news is of just Partner promotion. Should have done in April itself why wait for 6 months? PR gimmick!

I am surprised at the level of censoring to be honest. So the only way one can disagree is by recording an objection to a comment! Evidently, no alternate views are welcome and any disagreement will not be published. But then don’t your voting trends clearly give away that very information that you try so hard to censor???? A loophole maybe???

I hope this comment receives the approval of the ‘Censor Board’ for all its worth.

You do have a point... Have removed some of heavily voted on comments for now.

Will take a look if possible to figure this out a bit, whether votes are maybe possible to disable on certain comments, relating to individuals, in promotion stories, for instance?
