Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has hired Desai & Diwanji Mumbai partner Ketaki Gor Mehta as a partner in its new office in the Gandhinagar-based office in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), which it had announced in early May 2021 (alongside IC Universal Legal also opening in the city).

She had been a partner at Desai & Diwanji since 2013, and had become an associate partner in 2010, having worked and articled there to become a solicitor since 2003.

Desai & Diwanji commented: “The reason for her leaving is, she had to move to Ahmedabad with her family for personal reasons and we don’t have any office there. We wish her the very best.”

The 2005 GLC Mumbai graduate and 2007 qualified Bombay solicitor specialises in mergers and acquisitions, and corporate advisory and PE/VC work across sectors such as financial services, pharmaceutical, infrastructure, outsourcing, manufacturing and real estate, according to a CAM press release, and has also worked in project finance, acquisition finance and corporate lending.

Managing partner Cyril Shroff said: “She has exceptional professional credentials and ability to support the growth of our new office. Her joining is evidence to our commitment towards growth of our GIFT City office.”

Mehta commented in the press release that she “look[ed] forward to contributing to the growth of the GIFT City office”.

CAM’s GIFT office would have two people based there, CAM had said at the time of its initial announcement, and would be led by Shroff, finance head and partner L Viswanathan and Ahmedabad office head and partner Paridhi Adani.

I guess Covid made her revaluate her life choices, and she decided to move to a bigger platform.

GIFT CITY is a major push by the Modi government. Former MCA Secy and senior IAS officer Injeti Srinivas has been heading things there.
