Economic Laws Practice (ELP) has promoted 5 associate partner to salaried partner or the equivalent director level, while 15 other lawyers were promoted to associate partner level.
14 associate managers were also promoted to senior associate level, while 5 associates were promoted to associate managers.
“It’s very simple: the thought at ELP has always been that the firm will have to transition to our new set of owners, and that’s the way the firm has been designed,” commented ELP managing partner Suhail Nathani. “Potentially all promotions are potential managing partners of the firm.”
“Eventually the promotions are to look at candidates who will take ownership of the firm because we will all retire at a particular age,” he explained.
“In terms of number of promotions, the tax team is our largest, but our other practice areas have picked up very significantly. We didn’t look at practice areas but at meritorious people.
“One may be a corporate practitioner but if the person has the attributes of an ELP partner and represents the culture of the firm that we are looking to build, they need to be recognised for that. I am not missing the importance of ability to make rain, but that cannot be the only attribute.”
