Lavya Swain moves migrates start-up law firm to HSA

DLS Law Offices founder Dipti Lavya Swain, who was previously general counsel at Azure Power and partner at Luthra & Luthra, has joined HSA Advocates as a partner.

He has joined with his team of associates, though the other two DLS partners, Haripad Mohanty in Orissa and Anish Desai in Mumbai, will not be joining HSA (though “the firm intends to continue a professional relationship” with them, “albeit in a different structure”, according to HSA’s press release).

He specialises in corporate and M&A, having started DLS around the middle of 2018, after having joined Azure Power in January 2018 from Luthra.

Swain is the second corporate partner to have joined HSA in the last week - Bangalore saw Kochhar & Co partner Gaurav Sahay join - following eight partners having moved to DSK Legal.

Senior litigator Faranaaz Karbhari had also joined HSA as a counsel on 19 April.

HSA's constant in and out must mean the internal environment is super unstable right now. Any insiders to comment?

Phoenix, it looks more than a merger. I am certain, there must have been some good negotiations on many fronts.

This is great news for DLS & Dipti who has been doing commendable work in Corporate law over the last decade in an extremely competitive enviornment. Given the recent exodus for HSA, this move will be a gain for them.

Yaar ye toh hadd hi ho gayi. Kitne transactions par suna hai dipti ka naam last decade mein. Yahan bechare luthra mein kaam kar kar ke blue eyed boy ka neela rang peela ho gaya hai aur logo ko lagta hai dipti corporate kaam karta tha. Uski toh team bhi usko pasand nahin karti thi.

Leaving Luthra in Jan 18 to join as a GC. Then leaving Azure in 3-4 months to start independent firm for 6 months only and now joining HSA. This doesn't reflect that he was doing well and while it may may be said that he merged his firm with HSA, is hard to believe. Still thinking!!!!

What a catch by HSA. DLS is a one man army. Gem of a guy and even a better lawyer.

Kian,

I have come across this comment thread, and do not appreciate people mudslinging and maligning anybody in the garb of anonymity.

I do not know the person concerned, but understand that it may get disturbing for him. I also understand that it is within a person's right to criticize someone.

However, in case of such criticism, the person criticising should be known rather than being hidden in the veil of anonymity.

You either do not publish such comments or arrange for a process where only verified accounts could publish such comments (eg., posting comment through Facebook account).

Hope you consider this suggestion. Let the persons be accountable for their comments. If not, do not publish maligning comments. They may be false, and agonising for the person concerned at the same time.

Thanks

Hello.

I am the one who had posted this comment in defense. Now, [...] I do take the trouble to come back on this thread, and take my defending comment back.

Not at all impressed.

Kian, your censorship, in my opinion is a disservice to the community at large. Yes, mere trolling and name calling should at all times be deleted, but a conversation, often by insiders or people in the know, is a valuable insight into the reality. E.g. if a lawyer were to be approached to join HSA, the views and reviews are a source of information in decision making

Pray how would you check for veracity of those supposed insights given the anonymity of the commentator? Using that garb, people can and often do write completely unsubstantiated stuff and made-up grouse out of personal vendetta. If someone joining an organisation has to rely on that kind of thing to make a decision, he's probably better off staying away from the place.

Time for Kian to start a glassdoor equivalent for Indian firms within LI :-)

My Friend, I think you are new to the LI comments section. If a comment is, as you say unsubstantiated and a tool for personal vendetta, the likes/ objects to that comment will more often than not show the truth. Please go and see any of the partner promotion articles, and see how the community reacts to the comments praising/ criticising the individuals. I think the LI community is a difficult place to make false comments. Of course not to mention the CBFC being operated by Kian being another check and balance

So we are entrusting anonymous commentators to upvote/down vote unsubstantiated anonymous opinion. Such fun and healthy stuff! I've seen several such comments which have no bearing with truth, but have been upvoted too. Are you or Kian going to take personal responsibility for those? I think not.
