JurisCorp equity partners in its banking practice, Delhi-based Nand Gopal Anand and Mumbai-baseed Pratish Kumar, have joined J Sagar Associates (JSA) as partners in its Gurugram and Mumbai offices repsectively, according to a firm release.

Anand had been at JurisCorp for six years after graduating from ILS Pune, followed by three years at Khaitan & Co and a return to Juris Corp in 2015.

Anand said: “I am grateful to the JSA management for putting their faith in me. With Pratish and I joining the firm together, I am sure that our synergy will benefit the banking and finance practice of the firm.”

In Kumar’s case, it is a return to the firm, having worked there between 2012 and 2017 before joining JurisCorp (where he had also worked between 2008 and 2012 after graduating from NLIU Bhopal).

Kumar commented: “JSA is one of the highly regarded firms in the banking and finance sector, both at the national and international level. I am thrilled about this new role and my second innings at JSA. Nand and I, with our professional experiences and expertise, hope to add value to the existing banking and finance practice of the firm.”

According to JSA, Anand would “oversee our banking & finance practice in North India”, and:

Nand Gopal Anand: Nand has 15 years of extensive experience in handling a variety of financing transactions involving Indian and foreign banks, financial institutions, multi-lateral agencies, governmental agencies, public sector enterprises and companies. He also works closely with corporates and banks in project financings across various sectors such as conventional and renewable energy, transmission, oil & gas and transportation.

Pratish Kumar: Pratish’s expertise lies in domestic and cross border corporate lending, trade finance transactions and securitisation transactions which includes securitisation of standard assets, securitisation of non-performing assets, pass through structures and direct assignment transactions. He has also advised clients on debt restructuring and issues relating to the enforcement of security interest.

Mumbai banking partner and executive committee member Dina Wadia commented: “Nand brings a wealth of experience across the entire spectrum of the banking and finance space and his joining will considerably boost our practice in the North and enable us to better serve our clients in these regions. Pratish’s joining will considerably boost our trade finance and securitisation practice. We look forward to them being valuable members of our team.”

“They are both accomplished individuals and bring together a wealth of experience. Their joining our firm will augment our existing expertise and offerings to Indian and global banking clients in project financing, trade finance and securitisation,” said Aashit Shah, partner and chair of JSA’s finance Practice.

JurisCorp co-founder Jayesh H had commented: “I thank both Nand and Pratish for their invaluable contributions in re-orienting the banking practice of Juris Corp and grooming the next-gen. I wish them both the best in their future endeavours.”

The banking practice would be headed at JurisCorp by Ankit Sinha and Saurabh Sharma, who were promoted earlier this year to partnership.

JurisCorp equity partner Arunabh Choudhary added: “The two new partners in the banking practice will take over the reins and steer the practice ahead. Their dedication and determination has been well appreciated by clients, which further solidifies the level of trust and reliability which has been bestowed by our clients over the years.”

Looking at the career switches, there would be a switch back to juris corp after few years? Then back to jsa? And so on...?

This is what JSA needed to be back in the game. Their current banking team somehow lacked that depth and shine. No one can stop them from topping the tables July 2021 onwards..

Both of them are fantastic additions to JSA's portfolio of lawyers, but why critic JSA's existing team? Dina and Aashit have been industry stalwarts for a long time now, acting on some of the biggest mandates in the business.

This is great! Nand is a gem of a lawyer. His business friendly approach is amazing. A big win for JSA and the worst loss for JC. Looking forward to connect with you again Nand on more deals! Cheers to your new role!

Nand is a great guy with his own books. Well deserved. Although I have never worked with Pratish but have heard really good things. All the best

With his 'own books' why does one need to volley around from firm to firm... time to go independent my friend.

Nand was the sole flag-bearer of the banking practice at JC. Being a banking law stalwart, he was virtually running the entire show with Jayesh taking the back seat. Huge loss to JC and major gain for JSA... their fortunes will change forever now.

All because of Internal JC Politics!

The above comment is definitely from an insider as no one really bothers to check JCs rising stars.

Nand has taken a very good step by coming to JSA. Surely, JC can't handle a person of his calibre due to their top management. His understanding of clients and their business is unmatchable. Surely, he is next in the line for becoming JSA's face for the B&F business in northern India. Well done buddy. All the very best. You deserve this.

My best wishes to these two gentlemen and wishing them a long and successful innings at JSA, however, Kian, it does seem odd that you chose not to report L&L get a partner from AZB as a new practice head (incidentally, in the same/ similar practice areas as these two gentlemen).

No one can deny you have the right to make that editorial call. However, as a website largely (if not solely) dedicated to law firm news, one would think that a firm that went through a very public promoter dispute getting a new practice head in a bid to restabilize would be of interest to LI. Makes one curious as to why it hasn't happened.

I wonder what will JC clients do now. With Nand and Pratish moving to JSA, will they also move with them? Of course JC has promoted 2 [...] to their partnership, but will it really help? Seems, difficult times ahead for JC.
