Alexander is joining Majmudar’s corporate and commercial disputes practice in Mumbai as an associate partner. The practice is headed by partner Neerav Merchant, whom Alexander said he knew since they had faced each other in a litigation for a client.
“My [role] here will be more comprehensive than what I was handling [at Juris Corp],” said Alexander. “I will also be dealing with corporate litigation, and [it will] not just be restricted to banking.”
Merchant commented: “We look at Fraser to strengthen our disputes practice, especially on the banking and finance matters… Considering the depth and knowledge that Fraser brings in relation to handling and advising clients on the banking and commercial disputes, we are hoping that his move in Majmudar will be a win-win for both parties. Moreover, our clients shall really welcome this move, especially once we succeed in structuring Fraser’s roles and responsibilities in Majmudar, as also help him in integrating with us completely.”
According to a Juris Corp press release, Alexander was primarily handling banking disputes and recoveries at the firm.
Alexander graduated in 1991 from GLC Trivandrum and practiced in Kerala courts from April 1992 to June 1996, when he joined litigation firm M Kurien & Associates in Chennai for more than a year.
In 1998 he joined MEPC India as a retail associate and in 2000 he moved to the in-house legal department of Lakshmi Vilas Bank. His last in-house counsel role was at Development Credit Bank from 2002 to 2006.
He said he expected a moderate flow in banking transactions until 2015, when things would look up further.
Juris Corp co-founding partner H Jayesh said in the press release: “He is a great guy and someone who will make his mark wherever he goes. We wish him all the best.”
Juris Corp had opened an office in Chennai this week after hiring Mumbai partner Hoshedar Wadia’s sister Hufriz Wadia to head it. The last partners to resign Juris Corp - Vandana Sekhri, Freddy Daruwala and Nisar Ookabhoy – left in early 2012.
Majmudar & Partners founding partner Akil Hirani was not available for comment at the time of going to press.

The story is not correct since after Vandana and Freddy's resignation from the firm, their senior Banking Partner Mr Nisar Ookabhoy had also quit in May 2012. Would appreciate if you set the story straight

Even a partner designate ( senior to Of Counsel)Mr Joshi had quit in Sept 2012 but not reported by LI
Along with 5 partners at least 25 seniors have also left

The title is extremely inappropriate especially the use of the word "bait". Please do not use such words to indicate a shift by a respected lawyer from one organisation to another. Apart from various ambiguous connotations that the word suggests, it is just gauche. When you are not completely privy to various considerations that may have prompted his departure from the firm, reporting his departure in such a manner suggests insensitivity and lack of refinement. And, come on, you are not a tabloid for God's sake. Rein in your junior editors.
The Juris Corp profile shows Fraser as Of Counsel while your story shows him as a Banking Partner I was given to understand that Ms Veena S was the Banking partnerof Juris Corp. Would you please clarify
