Majmudar strengthens corporate with Bharucha lateral partner Davar

Majmudar & Co has hired Bharucha & Partners equity partner Rukshad Davar as a corporate, M&A and tax partner in Mumbai.

Davar said that he decided to join Majmudar because it was a growing law firm and offered good growth prospects. “[I’m doing significant amount of corporate work – and bringing on board my clients and existing clients I hope to build on the existing corporate practice,” he said.

Davar is a qualified chartered accountant and a solicitor in Mumbai as well as in England & Wales.

He joined Majmudar at the beginning of this year. Managing partner Akil Hirani said: “He brings in a wealth of good experience on the deals front and client connections which we hope to exploit. It’s a welcome addition.

In August 2009 Davar had merged his practice into Bharucha, becoming the firm’s fifth equity partner. His former associates remain at Bharucha, which opened up a Delhi office last week.

Bharucha manging partner MP Bharucha said that he wished Davar well at his new firm.

So Bharucha loses its first equity partner within a year or so of starting up. It will be really interesting to see how the young firms (even with aged partners) are able to have a stable practice and generate confidence in clients about their continuity. I feel one of the major impediments for Indian law firms is lack of team play among partners. Indians, by temperament, look for individual glory and not common gain for the firm at large.

The legal jobs section on LI works independently of editorial and is confidential, so I do not know if this recruitment took place through the job posting. Also, we do not work on a commission for placement basis and applications through the jobs site go straight to the firm, so we are not directly involved in the placement process.
