S&R Associates has appointed two lawyers as counsel and Simran Dhir as the head of its competition practice, according to a press release by the firm.

Dhir, a 2007 NLSIU Bangalore graduate had joined S&R in 2011, after having worked at SJ Berwin in London and Munich on competition law from 2007 to 2010.

Meanwhile, Delhi-based Abhishek Tewari and Mumbai-based Shahezad Kazi have also been designated to the counsel rung at the firm.

Tewari, a 2004 Nalsar Hyderabad graduate, specialises in litigation and arbitration, including corporate and commercial litigation, domestic and international arbitration, insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings and regulatory matters. He was previously an advocate in the Supreme Court, Delhi high court and a number of tribunals.

Kazi, a 2006 GLC Mumbai alum, also specialises in litigation and arbitration practice, including corporate, commercial and real estate litigation, insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings, SEBI, SAT and other regulatory matters and arbitration. He had joined S&R in 2016, having previously practised before the bombay high court and other forums.

I have been there for 6 years practicing in the CCI. I have literally never heard of these names. These guys never seem to attend any conferences or advocacy events either. Assuming even if they just did combinations, names are always heard in the corridors of CCI.

That's strange, heard from someone who works in CCI that Simran's fairly well thought of. I guess that's what really matters, though, isn't it, and not your stamp of approval? And I'd be surprised if you'd heard the Abhishek and Shahezad's names in the "corridors of the CCI" - since they are litigation guys, who have nothing to do with competition law. Attention to detail, buddy!

Never said any stamp of approval is necessary. Just that I've never seen her in the CCI. Would you be so kind to share any combination matters which carry the S&R name on the order, except the Al-Amin Investment one? Or is that too much to ask? Thanks.

S&R has a competition practice? Are they starting out or is it already established?

Established practice on the M&A/regulatory side, I think. Not on the litigation side.

Congrats Shehazad. Well deserved. You have consistently done well and proven your mettle. Just wonder why a gem like you who is worth much more to such firms wasted your time at a place like Majmudar, which is worthless. The only black stone in your otherwise shining crown. You have bigger things to achieve at a young age. Much more than your ex boss would ever achieve in his life. All the best and keep shining. You found your place and showed some people theirs.

What is a counsel in the S&R hierarchy? Also unclear on whether Simran has been promoted to partner.

No, it's not partner, it's sort of a new designation, of 'head'.

Sim Sim and Tewari - Congratulations! I have always held you two in high regard - Tewari (as a lawyer and an artist), and you, Sim Sim (as a person and a lawyer) :)

Good job deleting the first set of comments, Kian - this is what is expected in terms of moderation on a leading media platform. Seemed like nothing more than a case of "sour grapes" by some disgruntled "dead weight" masquerading as associates in the firm. Those who can, do; those who can't, hate.
