S&R seems to be increasingly open to promoting laterals. I remember a time when they showered rewards on the chaps that joined them right out of law school (with a brief foreign LLM sojourn). Is there a shift in culture there? Previously unheard stuff is happening, such a partners quitting to join other firms (Bhakta to Trilegal). And now, absolute lateral hires being elevated quickly. Not devaluing any of their achievements, just wondering how exactly S&R is positioning itself to the fraternity and clients. Maybe it is a signal that they are ready to play the big game, no firm after it grows beyond a size can be very insular, people will migrate. That's alright, and can even refresh the vibe around the place. Just wonder if S and R have undertaken some firm-wide review or goal-setting..

I have heard S&R is the highest paying law firm. Is that true?

Yeah. But nothing comes for free.

Depends. At the junior end of the scale, yes, S&R is the highest paying firm. As you get senior, though, other firms bridge the gap. At partner level (and yes, I am aware S&R is all equity etc), there are partner sat the same peer level who make more.

even more than Khaitan ? Which i believe is the highest pay-master or so we're told!
AZB 8 Sept 2019, 04:17

AZB just had a pay scale revision and now pays 125,000 before tax, plus bonus. KCO is 120,000 before tax plus bonus.

SAM also pays more to fresher's than KCO now, if we exclude bonus. They match AZB's base pay.

Trilegal, Luthra, and CAM are 110,000 before tax.

If those are the correct numbers then yes S&R would be the highest payer at the junior most level. On partners not making par, it just seems that partners are sacrificing their take home to make sure juniors who are killing themselves for the partners and not losing out on any way and the partners are taking a hit for that- sounds like a good model to get talent

What's S&R's fresher's pay scale then? More than 1.25 lakh?

Can someone please help?
Ex-intern 9 Sept 2019, 16:46

The base pay is the same but bonuses are 3X of the market.

A0 gets around 3.5-4 lakhs as bonus.
Future intern 10 Sept 2019, 11:52

S&R A0 salary becomes 1.25 * 12 + 3.5 = 18.5? Is that correct?

Seems other firms have caught up with KCO when it comes to salaries !!

Not true at all at mid-level. KCo is far above market there with trilegal closely following. Azb, cam, sam lag behind here.
Bonus 10 Sept 2019, 21:20

What about the bonus at SAM and AZB at A0? Does SAM have a flat 15 no bonus or has that changed?
Guest 2.2 11 Sept 2019, 05:18

For SAM, no bonus at A0. Flat 15.6 lpa
Bonus 17 Sept 2019, 03:58
+1 -1
So SAM is at the bottom of the market for tier 1 at A0 levels? I hope an A1 makes substantially higher, otherwise it's simply sad with all the gung ho about being market leader.

Great going, Bobo.

Great work ethic, attention to detail and all that, but more importantly, this couldn't have happened to a nicer person.
