Nagaraj moves from Tatva to SAM

Bengaluru-based Tatva Legal co-founding partner Manav Nagaraj will be joining Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) with his team, including partner Bhargava KS, we have reliably learned.

According to our deals league tables, his clients include a number of funds (the ones that we have reported include ones such as Quona Capital and Indegene).

We have reached out to Nagaraj, Tatva and SAM for comment.

Update 14:10: Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas confirmed in a press release that Nagaraj would be joining as an equity partner, with Mumbai-based co-managing partner Akshay Chudasama commenting: “Manav and his team will undoubtedly add great value to the firm with their expertise.”

Update: Nagaraj added that he hoped to “further develop the Bengaluru market”:

After eleven and a half years with Tatva Legal, I believe this is an opportune moment to embark on new challenges… I would like to thank all my colleagues at Tatva Legal, both lawyers and staff, all of whom have helped me in my professional and personal journey thus far. I wish all of them especially Dilip and the team at Bengaluru continued success.

Tatva Bangalore-based co-founding partner NK Dilip commented: “We wish both of them the best.” Post Bhargava and Nagaraj’s departure, Tatva will have 5 partners based in Bengaluru, with 2 in corporate, 2 in real estate and 1 in litigation.

Nagaraj is a 1999 NLSIU Bangalore graduate who has worked at Arthur Anderson and Ernst and Young before joining Dua Associates in 2002, becoming a partner there, and jointly starting Tatva in the mass breakaway from Duas by 2010.

His and his team’s joining will be a welcome addition to SAM in the Garden City after the firm in April announced partner Roshan Thomas moving to SAM close unicorn client Byju.

Kian,

Am not getting into any assessment of the person here, but you should disallow upvotes and downvotes for coments about people, when that person has no ability to defend himself/herself. Whether he is rare or good is a subjective thing and why have a vote on it?

Manav is a better catch for SAM compared to their original choice in Banglur who did a volte face for a board seat. Tri harder next time.

This guy did everything he could for Tatva in the last so many years. Could the firm have not given a better send off message other than wishing the best? Most firms seem to have this stock statement when someone leaves.
