Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has laterally hired two fee-earners into its partnership from S&R Associates and Linklaters.
Abhiroop Amitava Datta has joined as a partner from S&R Associates in Delhi, where he specialised in securities work.
He is a 2009 Nalsar Hyderabad graduate who had worked at erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB & Partners and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas until 2017, before joining S&R.
Linklaters Singapore-based banking & projects managing associate Prateek Jauhari has also joined Shardul Amarchand as a partner.
The 2010 GNLU Gandhinagar graduate had been at Linklaters since 2018, having previous worked at Alctico Capital and Trilegal in Mumbai.
Yet another NALSAR tier 1 partner! Congratulations!

How does one manage to get a job at a foreign law firm after having some PQE in India without an LLM?

You have to be kickass at your job, and in the way you handle your personal life.

Luck.
I know of people who were contacted by foreign law firms on linkedin for an interview. If you're good at your job and have decent relationships with your magic circle counterparts for transactions where you're worked across them and get good recommendations from ex-colleagues/ seniors and get super lucky - its possible.

Huge loss to S&R in Datta. Not just a great lawyer but a really great sense of humor. Will miss his presence in the office. Wonder who's next.

In a market like this, any cm team would want to hire good talent. A real shame that the Trimurti couldn't foresee this outcome. good on SAM for the steal.

What ways? Can you please elaborate? I have heard S&R has the nicest people and an amazing work culture? Is it true? Or do associates slog as hard at S&R as in other sweat shops? Reading all these negative comments/posts on LI has really gotten me worried, as to whether I should join a corporate law firm.

Please do an analysis of why have most capital markets lawyers, homegrown or lateral, decided to quit S&R after reaching a particular level below partnership.

Yes, S&R has very nice people and if by good work culture you mean sophisticated, that is also true. But my honest opinion on S&R is that it is different from other firms and too many people join and quit within months because of the culture shock so please talk to people about what to expect before applying to S&R.

What kind of culture shock? Is it too hectic than other law firms? I am more concerned about the kind of work and the load of work that a junior associate has at the other firm. I have been shortlisted for an interview and would love if any insider could help me with this query. Thanks in advance.

Unless you are a partner yourself, don’t think you should be commenting on what criteria SAM follows to make / hire a partner.
If you are a partner indeed, how do you have the time to come lurking here? Please go do some work yourself instead of piling everything on your team.

While I dont think it is relevant to be a 'partner' to have an opinion on someone you have worked with, however, to ease your apprehension I am one in one of the biggest ones. In any case, to re-iterate I am surprised at criteria (or lack of it) basis my personal assessment of work, feedback and skills sets.
As for the lurking comments, cummon really, go for a better argument. Though it seems like you had a Freudian slip my friend, piling everything on the team was literally one of the feedbacks for the man.

That is just horrible English. Please say “...on the basis of...” the next time.

You clearly don't know how S&R works if you think counsels at S&R are allowed to pile things on their team!

Its funny how every post about S&R turns into comments on the work culture there. Then S&R people jump in and say things like you don't know how S&R is like, so stop commenting. S&R is perfectestest. Hahahaha. Get a life, guys. Things are bad in every corp law firm and you are no special. I dont blame you for being so defensive about the firm its only because you are so ingrained in your life there that you dont know how things work at other places. Some people make the wise choice to test the waters but some don't.

I have worked both with and across him for a long time now and the only thing that surprises me is it took him this long. Anyway doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, because he's gone back to his old boss and team who have known him since he was an a0. It is obvious that his work is valued by people who actually have worked with him.

Is that why you're jealous? Because you're in "one of the biggest ones" and he's joined the biggest one? XD
You need to work on your typos if you want to convincingly fake being a partner online. Or at least ask your imaginary juniors to proofread "cummon" and "skills sets" before you post.
