He will also be one of three partners in the firm’s general corporate advisory practice, in addition to developing new practice areas.

Goel, who was partner for the TMT, competition, and anti-dumping practices at Seth Dua for eight years, said: “These practice areas kind of overlap according to my understanding and that is the advantage that clients get when they come to us.

“For example, when a foreign client is facing a trade barrier in terms of anti-dumping proceedings which are predominantly abuse of dominant position by the domestic industry then we can advise the client on both competition law and anti-dumping provisions, unlike other firms which have separate partners handling anti-dumping.”

“With our move from Seth Dua to Dhir, we are carrying that forward,” he added.

Goel graduated as a lawyer from Delhi University in 2001, practised with a now defunct Delhi intellectual property boutique, and obtained an LLM in information technology, media and e-commerce laws with a specialisation in TMT, international trade and competition from the University of Essex in 2003.

He joined Singhania & Partners as an associate in 2004, and finally moved to Seth Dua in 2005 where he was promoted to senior associate level in 2007, and made partner in 2009.

Goel is the seventh partner at Dhir. He joins with his colleague Monga, who was at Seth Dua for five years and holds an LLM in information technology (IT) and intellectual property (IP) laws from National University of Singapore (NUS).

Dhir partner Maneesha Dhir continues heading the firm’s TMT litigation practice.

In August 2012 Legally India reported that Dhir had hired fomer Singhania & Partners chief executive officer (CEO) Manju Mohotra as its first CEO, while aiming to expand in insolvency and restructuring, and to set up an office in Chandigarh.
