Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) partner Dhruv Dewan is set to go independent as a litigator in Delhi, we understand authoritatively from sources.

He will be starting an independent practice in the next month or two, after the end of his notice period.

The NLIU Bhopal 2004 graduate specialises in commercial disputes and had started his career at Amarchand Mangaldas as it then was.

We understand that he had acted for Tata Sons in its Cyrus Mistry dispute, begun in 2016.

He had been promoted to partner in 2013.

He declined to comment when contacted.

We have also reached out to SAM for comment.

The place has become ethically and culturally spurious. Partners back bite each other. The only thing the management care about is money - no resource value, unless you have capabilities to appease (butter, to be more specific) a few (not naming those).

SAM's ability to retain its most hardworking fee earners is clearly on demonstration. News is that almost 5-7 home grown Partners/PAs are leaving at the same time and probably collaborating to open their own firm. Arbitrary systems in place and a complete lack of transparency is what leads such great professionals to look elsewhere in the pursuit of their career satisfaction.

Well SAM has always lost excellent PA's from it's lit practice. OM and MM were big losses in the last two years. SSD had BD issues but still a loss as he did a lot of heavy lifting. Partners kept focussing on their personal growth and ignored the teams which bind the practice. This was bound to happen.

DD leaving is probably the saddest because he was an extremely capable lawyer with extremely competent team. You will be missed sire.
