Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas promotes 6 to equity, all in Delhi

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has promoted six to its equity partnership, reported Bar & Bench.

The following six have been promoted, all of whom are based in Delhi:

  • Ajit Warrier (litigation; NLSIU Bangalore 1993)
  • Anirudh Das (litigation)
  • Anuj Prasad (corporate, M&A, private equity; Symbiosis Law School 2001)
  • Manu Nair (litigation)
  • Shailaja Lall (ILS Pune 2000)
  • Shilpa Mankar (NLSIU Bangalore 2002)

Their promotions follow Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas Delhi partner Nivedita Tiwari who had joined as equity partner one month ago.

In June, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas had promoted 8 to non-equity partner level.

Cyril Amarchand is yet to announce its partnership promotions, but they are expected next month.

Total fraud (basis my limited knowledge). A true eq. partner would get close to 4-6% equity. A namesake eq. partner gets 0-0.9% eq.,as is the case of (e.g.) Ms. [...].

The fun part is that they may not even get the eq. in the main partnership. It could be one of the many sub/parallel partnerships.

In places like SAM and Khaitan, equity is all a nomenclature. Partners might not even know their equity unit number or value. Just something nice sounding to put in their VCs. Bah.

What’s the unit value at SAM? INR 500 or lesser after demonetisation. Also do these poor equity in name, ever get an equity upside??

Quite funny that someone who has been made equity by SAM is not known enough for legally India to figure out his practice area. What kind of equity partners are these.

SSS will have to top up his existing equity partners unit value to keep them now. What is the unit value now at SAM? Mere salaried these guys are with equity tag. @kian please investigate and report

5 deserving one barely surviving! That’s the beauty of the mothership...they realise this mistake later when the ones rewarded for loyalty and seniority run around without meeting their targets! Okhla get your act in order!

Who are these people and what is their claim to fame. Have never even read anything about them till this news article. There is a difference between shadow equity and equity. Just a carrot to ensure that people don't leave. Just because they are now equity does it mean that their billing rates will go up? So basically as a client I was paying 10 rupees and tomorrow onwayrds I'll pay 20 for the same guy?

Senior level exits sets bad precedent & not a good message for juniors. Also clients may or can question leadership, hence overall negative news. Not good for business so some damage control.
