Symbi alum’s Pune projects start-up targets Delhi, Mumbai

Former India Law Services (ILS) associate and Symbiosis Law School graduate Aakash Phadnis project finance and intellectual property (IP) start-up in Pune has recently started a tie-up in Delhi and hopes to open in Mumbai soon.

El’ Serv has now opened an office in Delhi as a tie-up with advocate Rajat Bhardwaj in Defence Colony.

Phadnis, who is the sole founder of the one-year-old law firm called El’ Serv said he has plans to grow his legal practice in the western-Maharashtrian region, which according to him is an area that presents immense opportunity due to heavy industrialisation and technological progress.

“The initiative to set up the firm in Pune was taken considering the need of clientele from varied industries in and around Pune, approaching Mumbai based law firms for legal services. There a few firms which have offices in Pune and are predominantly used as back offices,” said Phadnis.

He added that there is a lot of scope for legal work in Pune where not too many law firms are present, claiming that El’ Serv was probably the only city firm specialising in project finance there.

Phadnis worked at ILS for two years in Mumbai and Pune after having been a consultant for IP firm Bhate & Ponkshe.

The firm’s Pune office located at Kothrud has four lawyers led by sole partner Phadnis.

Congrats Aakash!!! Pune got its Project Finance firm now and people here in Pune dont need to fly to Mumbai for this type of work.

I've heard AZB & Partners and Dua Associates also have offices in Pune and are running a full service practice since the past two to three years. Lot of other law firms are planning offices in Pune to tap the growing market opportunities. Any news or coverage on that?

Dua is there for qute a long time. AZB s made entry recently.

Yes Dua always had an office in Pune, but i think there practice is largely restricted to real estate? Any idea about AZB's team strength and practice areas?

i doubt.. had dealt with Dua in one corporate matter. They have corporate prctce in Pune. its gud that AZB has started operations in Pune.

Firms like AZB and Dua may be having full fledged operations but, there are firms which have lesser presence in Pune. That is probably the reason why firms are now coming up in Pune.

Wadia Ghandy, Legasis areother law firms in Pune. Besides there are plenty of other one lawyer firms in Pune.

exactly my point - so if these firms are 'having full fledged operations' in Pune, why are these firms being called 'back offices'? Its good that firms like el serve are opening up because as rightly pointed out by 'hi' there are plenty of other one lawyer firms. Pune now requires presence of big law firms such as Amarchand, NDA etc etc. Future of Pune's legal industry looks bright with established players like Azb, Dua and Wadia Ghandy already gearing up for market needs.
