What is the difference between a counsel and managing associate in terms of role at TT&A. What is the pay scale in comparison with the top 5?

TT&A is a great firm to work with and have a bunch of excellent lawyers. Very well deserved elevations. Have worked with Nidhi, Kira, Archana and Debopam personally and couldn't agree more on their promotions.

TTA has a bunch of rockstars in the Finance team. Great partners and lawyers to work with and their commercially sound approach makes negotiating such a smooth process. Great going Sonali, Rahul and Ro. Keep it up.

Let me take this opportunity to shed some much deserved light on three fine corporate lawyers of TT&A. Kunal Thakore (Sanskaari Harvey Spectre); Feroz Dubash (Smooooth lawyer) and Neville Golwalla (backbone and a dark horse, extremely underrated, he is the already risen star, more in the league of a distinguished practitioner).

My good wishes always with TT&A family.

I have had the chance to work with Debo in his earlier firm. Haven't seen a better senior than him, very patient, explains every point very clearly and a natural leader. He always looks out for his juniors and ensures they grow professionally. Plus a fantastic person. Very happy for him and wish him the very best for all future endeavours. Hope we again get to work together.

Really pleased to see the promotions!

Nidhi is an exceptional lawyer and with KP and Debo as their newest star attractions, their finance practice certainly is the go-to team for complex structured work. Absolutely fantastic stuff!

Sonali and Ro are really building quite the team at TTA!!

Great going guys!

Done multiple deals with Debopam while he was at Argus. Every time I worked with him, I knew my deal was in safe hands. He makes any deal his own head ache and not the client's. Have not seen many in the industry as focussed, diligent and hard-working as him. Any time of the day, any day of the year, he is always happy to pick up the phone for any question. One of the very best that Argus had. Argus's loss is TTA's gain for sure. Keep it up Debopam, wish you the very best for this new role and in life ahead.

Archana is one of the best mid level lawyers I have worked with. She is sharp, very sound with her knowledge of law, fantastic negotiator and a classic deal executor. One of the best TTA has if not the best. It's a pleasure to work opposite her. Hope we get to work together some day.

At that level of PQE people in SAM, Khaitan and trilegal make more around 80 lakhs

Well done Debopam. Great lawyer, commercially very aware and a master negotiator. He along with one of his juniors has done deals opposite me and my partner as a borrower counsel. He put forward his points so clearly and logically that we were left impressed by the end of the deal. Pleasure to work against and very respectful of his other side.

'Counsel' designation is one level below Partner ?
Is 'Counsel' designation seen more in firms which do not have 'Associate Partner' designation?

If these lawyers are so good as the comments suggest why don't they join SAM, Trilegal or any other better paying firms.
So many people left TTA as the pay was very less. Examples are newly made partner Tejas adiga at trilegal, several junior associates as well as at managing associate level.
Even partners at TTA make less than 1cr.

Hey seniors,

How are you doing? I hope this corona gives you a much needed break from the hectic law firm schedule that I have seen most of you crib about at LI forums.

I assume some free time at your disposal. As a law student, I (like many others) have always wondered about life at the other end. No, not as much about the work-life balance, firm politics and other stuff, but primarily about the money.

Would it be possible for some of the kind souls (hope 11 days in the lockdown have rekindled your souls) to give a year wise salary of various law firms?

I perfectly expect a lot of thrashing and anonymity gives me the advantage of not being affected by it. But just in case, anyone decides to show some kindness- Thank you in advance.

Hey Kian, do you think it's time that you can take a survey of how much people at different PQE in different firms were paid? Will be interesting to compare this data with a post corona dataset? By the way, Vahura released a report last year, but I feel it's grossly exaggerated.
Here is the link to the report - https://www.vahura.com/docs/VahuraSampleCompensationReport.pdf . See page 4.

Curiously yours,
The Curious Kid

TTA does pay at the highest level.

For god's sake don't spread nonsense. Managing associate makes 30 lakhs. Counsel around 45. Infact the partners also don't make more than 80 lakhs.
So for god's sake. Bonuses at Khaitan at counsel level are more than the entire salary of managing associates at TTA

If the figures of TTA salary are wrong. Someone please give a breakup of real figures. Do partners at TTA make more than 80 lakhs all inclusive?
Guest 7 Apr 2020, 13:15

Why is there such unhealthy curiosity about what other people are earning? If TTA ever offers you a job, as a fresher or a lateral hire, you would get to know about their pay package. Same goes for other firms.

Managing Associate Level 1 salary at TT&A is INR 47 lakhs fixed plus 10-25% bonus.

Counsel pay is around INR 90 lakhs approx.
