TTA promotes 2nd counsel: NUJS ‘05 Deepa Christopher in corporate

NUJS Kolkata 2005 alumnus Deepa Christopher was promoted to counsel at Talwar Thakore & Associates (TTA) effective 1 October.

Christopher had a stint in-house at Infosys before joining TTA in 2008.

TTA partner Feroz Dubash commented: “We are delighted at Deepa’s promotion to Counsel. She has been at the forefront of our corporate practice and has worked on some of our most challenging transactions, particularly in the areas of insurance, pharma and data protection. We look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role.”

Talwar Thakore & Associates now has tp;;6 partners (Kunal Thakore, Feroz Dubash, Sonali Mahapatra, Rahul Gulati, Rituparno Bhattacharya and Shruti Zota) and 2 counsel (Ram Kumar in Delhi and now Deepa Christopher in Mumbai).

Being a partner is not for everybody. Being a counsel allows you to focus on legal work and execution, without worrying about firm administration, business development, new clients and so on. It is well suited for people who do not want to be on a partnership track, and there are several very happy and satisfied counsels.

To be honest, TTA does not have a corporate practice. It is an out and out banking & finance practice. The attrition has been very very high lately. TTA does not remain a great place to work anymore. Internal politics, favouritism, prefential treatment to a select few is now the new norm in TTA. If I am not wrong, almost 10-15 people have left TTA in the last few months. That speak volumes about their ability to retain good people anymore. Sonali and Rahul should buck up.
