Vaish to build direct tax capacity in Mumbai with Delhi relocation

Exclusive: Vaish Associates Delhi-based senior associate Sachit Jolly will relocate to Mumbai to start the firm’s direct tax law practice in Mumbai.

Jolly, who is currently stationed in Vaish’s Delhi office, will relocate to Mumbai for his new assignment from 1 August to establish and build a direct tax practice team in the country’s financial capital, where he will continue to advise on direct tax advisory work and argue cases before tribunals and courts in tax-related matters.

“This is pretty much a strategic move and something that has coincided with the fact that we are also completing 40 years. We thought this market was untapped,” Jolly told Legally India.

Jolly added that earlier direct tax law work for clients in Mumbai was being carried out from Delhi and the partners used to travel whenever required. The Delhi direct tax practice consists of 17 headed up by partner Rupesh Jain.

Jolly added that the Mumbai office would now be able to provide composite services under one roof as a full service firm together with the already established indirect tax and corporate practices.

Jolly has worked with Vaish Associates ever since he passed out of Amity Law School four years back.

“The move adds another dimension to the firm’s already well-established corporate and indirect tax practice in Mumbai and signifies the firm’s commitment to provide comprehensive services to its clients under one roof,” Vaish partner Hemant Puthran said in an email.

He added that there would be further additions to the direct tax team going forward.

Earlier this year the firm had promoted and relocated Vikas Keyal from Mumbai to Bangalore to take care of the corporate practice as a department head, one designation below partner level.
